I know it might sound crazy, but I miss my period! I had a very regular cycle before I started taking birth control pills, but when I stopped taking them I stopped having my period. My doctor had me take a drug called Provera to "give me a period" (which worked) but since then, no period . She wants me to take birth control again to have a regular period. I don't want to be on ANY medicine. Has anyone else had this problem? This is also called secondary amenorrhea.

Provera was prescribed to me when I was having irregular cycles but it didn't help me at all. This was before I knew about alternatives. I wish I had better news for you. Maybe you can ask one of the doctors in this community.

If you don't mind me asking... what did you do after trying Provera? Did you just wait it out? Thanks for responding. :o)

Melissa, you asked me what I did. Well, my situation was a little different than yours so my answer won't benefit you in any way BUT I am not going to leave you hanging. You look young and when I was young, I was on birth control pills as well. When I stopped, it took a long time to become regular. You are right, if we only knew then what we know now about meds... but hey, we learn every day, right? It is none of my business why you were on birth control pills and you don't have to broadcast that information on here. I wouldn't. Sometimes, doctors prescribe birth control pills to help regulate your periods and sometimes girls and women take them for actual birth control. If you were taking them to regulate your periods then I would definitely go see an ND because obviously there is something off balance and that is normal, nothing to fear. If you were taking them for birth control, again, that is your business... and you decided to use alternative birth control (please always protect yourself) and got off of them, it is very, very normal for it to take a while for your cycle to get back on track. I want to back up what Michelle said to you about seeing a ND or doctor about it. You may want to talk to your mother. You may be surprised how supportive a mom can be. I know because I am one and my daughter can talk to me about anything. She may not think she can but she can. Try it, you may be pleasantly surprised. Remember we were once your age and right where you are now. We have lived it and we can help. I am glad you found this site and you have a great head start on living a healthy life!

Isn't not getting PMS a good thing?
I'm confused...

Thanks for writing, it was appreciated. I'm definitely looking in to finding an N.D. in my area. :o)

I wish I knew then what I know now... perscription drugs are not as good as they appear. I am definitely not pregnant and have also had some other tests done to see if there was another cause. My doctor didn't agree that the birth control pills caused this problem for me. Thanks for the pointer on things to avoid. I am going to look into that some more. Thanks for writing. :o) Everyone is so helpful around here!

Melissa, you didn't say how long ago you stopped taking the pill. It can take some time -- possibly up to a year for your body to get back to its old self. You can help by eating a clean diet (no soft drinks, artificial sweetners, french fries). I'm not saying don't go to an N.D., but do be patient with yourself and don't lose any sleep over it. Take care of yourself and it will take care of you!!

Thanks to everyone for responding!! :o) I stopped taking birth control last November. I had a period in December, but nothing else on my own until I took Provera in May. My husband and I have been eating as close to an organic diet as possible for a while now... and I know my body is doing much better because of this. I just want my period back! (I never thought I would say that, either.)

You are too funny. I never thought I would say I miss my period... I am actually enjoying it somewhat. But, when my husband and I decide to have a family... I don't want to find out then that there is a problem. Thanks for making me laugh!

I just want to say I stopped birth control pills and never started my period. I just thought I would wait it out. Well 2 years later I realized I didnt start my period because I have cirrhosis. Big shocker. I wish now that I would have looked into the real reason that I wasn't having my period instead of brushing it off. It is just something to keep an open mind for. I am 99% sure you probably just need some time for your body to adjust and I'm sure a ND will be able to give you some natural way to help you along, my ND gave me progesterone, which probably would have worked if it wasn't for the Cirrhosis.

I appreciate you writing to me. I really want to find out the source of this problem... if it was the pills or not. Thanks for sharing your story. You have an intersting story, too... thanks for adding me as a friend. :o)

WOW, so much to take in! I thought I was going through Early Menapause starting two years ago... went to every kind of doctor the VA could send me to... after TWO years of losing my hair, gaining TONS of weight, missing periods for MONTHS and then getting the mother load of periods... one STUDENT DOCTOR said, it was ALL side affect to medication they had me on for migraines... I took myself off the drugs, lost MOST of the weight (still got 20 to go) and my hair loss has slowed... periods are suddenly back to semi normal... (darn it.. You can have mine.. I really don't want them anymore... )... and just so EVERYONE KNOWS.. never ever ever get your tubes tied... I was dumb enough to do that and well, that has caused me additional 7 other surgeries because of the scar tissue over growing inside, and MAJOR CYST, which I never had before.. learned that ovarian cyst are a major side affect of getting your tubes done... that and when I finally met the right guy, we couldn't have a baby... my tubal could not be reversed because my tubes had DISEASED AWAY COMPLETELY!... learn from me... and please, you can have my period.TAKE IT..... LOL...
