Just curious to see if there were any raw, vegans on the forums! I just watched a documentary on this lifestyle last night and was very much intrigued! I have so many questions! Im not sure if I could live a completely true, raw vegan lifestyle but would like to start implementing some of these ideas into my diet. I know it must take alot of discipline, etc. How do you do it?
Im not sure if I could completely give up meat forever but I think I would like to try it at some point just to see what results I would get from it. I would even just like to start doing maybe half of my food raw atleast! Have you done any reading on it?
I like the idea of it also...from a health standpoint. Im curious to see the healthy side effects as such a diet. I would be happy just to go half raw vegan!
i'm intrigued w/eating raw...i just started to read the raw food gourmet by gabrielle chavez.. i'll let you know when i'm done...so far i like the author's enthusiasm..makes me want to try harder but all i can think about now is peanut butter & jelly on crackers ...
What about someone (like me) who's trying to go vegan but always seems to get week, what about eating no animal products but not necesarrily all raw? For example, what about soups, tofu burgers, peanut butter sandwhiches, rice? Things like that? Of course with large salads and lots of fruits everyday.
What say you?
Hi, I started eating mostly raw, mostly vegan about a month ago. Because there is a lot of planning involved, and right now I'm too ill to do as much of it as I'd like, I'm not sticking to it 100%.
Personally, I think that's the easiest way to do it--to start slow. Make raw, vegan foods that you enjoy, but don't try too hard to suppress your cravings for things you're used to eating. For example, I love eating cheese and crackers--I used to eat this nearly every day. I keep a box of crackers, and a little bit of cheese on hand. when I have a craving for it, I eat a little bit. Just enough to satisfy :)
I purchased a food dehydrator in December, and have been making raw veggie burgers in it, and also raw granolas. I've also made pumpkin seed "cheese" and cashew "cheese". Those are yummy, but they really don't taste anything like cheese! I've been experimenting to come up with a raw cracker, and have tried some flax seed raw crackers but haven't found one that I am happy with yet. So I usually end up using organic tortilla chips (which are baked of course) with the "cheese" spreads.
One of the best things you can start out doing is drinking lots of fruit smoothies and making your own juices, especially veggie juices. Try mixing carrots, celery, apple, and a bit of kale--yum!
Great ideas! Yeah.....im not sure how I would ever overcome being a meat eater. I feel I need the protein, etc right now and plus im on The Body Ecology Diet which recommends protein. This is something I am looking into doing maybe later on this year but I can start doing some of these things now. Im hoping to be atleast particially raw vegan throughout my next pregnancy. Also, I think the more recipes and ideas we find to replace the things we use like crackers, etc that we like the easier it will be. I have made almond mayo that I love and use that now instead of regular mayo. It's a raw vegan recipe I got from The Body Ecology Diet book! It's great!
