Just curious to see if there were any raw, vegans on the forums! I just watched a documentary on this lifestyle last night and was very much intrigued! I have so many questions! Im not sure if I could live a completely true, raw vegan lifestyle but would like to start implementing some of these ideas into my diet. I know it must take alot of discipline, etc. How do you do it?

YveBart,

Yeah....Marilyn has taught me alot! I have gone into this more slowly but now that Im thinking about having another baby I really would like to try and eat as much raw as I can during my pregnancy, etc and keep it going. I have heard so many great things about David Wolfe but have yet to read his books, etc. Which books by him would you recommend?

I'm from the States but I now live in Mexico City. They have a store here called The Green Corner. It's Mexico's version of Whole Foods in the States. I'm trying to go on a raw diet, or at least a diet free of animal food.
Sometimes, though, I get week when I eat no animal food. Perhaps I'm not eating the right kind of raw foods?? Any thoughts?

Meat is very stimulating. I have read it is more stimulating than caffeine. Also when making the switch to raw, no meat eating diet, the body will begin to expel all the excess proteins stored up and also the raw foods are very good cleanzers and the detoxing will make you feel weeek . In time this will pass and you will feel better than ever!!!

Hello,

I am truly making an honest attempt to become a "raw foodie", and though I have been a
vegetarian in the past, I don't believe it is the way to go. I obtain my raw food through a local
dairy co-op that supplies raw dairy, including raw cheese, raw yogurt, raw milk, as well as
raw eggs, raw meat, raw honey, and a host of other products. I swear by this raw food diet and
have made 80-90% of the food I eat raw. I suggest the book, We Want to Live, by
Aajonus Vonderplanitz (he made up that name!), which just may convince those on the fence
about raw food diets. You're right in understanding that it takes discipline, and like most things
worth doing, takes a complete lifestyle change and mindset. But if you're up for the challenge,
it'll be the best, healthiest thing you can do for your body!

What I want to know is how to avoid cooking grains like rice or oats ect. I am now trying to eat my sweet potatoes raw also, which taste great raw, but I still crave the cooked sweet potatoe or yam with honey and coconut oil. If I can do 75% raw I am happy. Not hard really, the only thing i cook is rice, oatmeal and occasionally a yam. Even my stirfry is awsome with cooked rice and Raw veggies. I just add raw garlic, raw ginger, raw sage thyme & rosemary, seasalt, coconut oil and or hemp oil & maybee a bit of honey&lemon juice. I guess it is more a rice salad now than a stirfry. But I would never want a cooked stirfry over the raw veggie way now.

Gabe,

I don't eat alot of grains because they just don't settle good with me! The only grains I eat are Ezekiel bread from time to time and occassionally something that is rice based like rice noodles, crackers, etc. I do like some millet, or some type of wheat free.....gluten free type of grains once in a while. I put them in a thermos with hot water and let it sit for a while until the grain expands. That way.....it's not hot enough to kill the valuable enzymes and nutrients and you are still getting a good live food but warm and yummy!

It's a lifestyle you must ease yourself into. I am a raw vegan and have been since January 2008.
I feel wonderful. I have so much energy and feel better as each day passes..If you'd like to know more about the rawfood lifestyle, there is a support forum called rawfu.com. Hope it helps..

scottiesfem,

You are right....it's something you have to ease into! Im still in the learning and researching phase of it but have made steps in that direction. I have given up things I NEVER thought I would give up like Dairy, red meat, beef, etc. I only eat fish, chicken from time to time and no more than two eggs a week. I do alot of raw fruit and try to eat raw salads with veggies as much as I can. It's a work in progress! I haven't made much more progress the last few months due to the high amount of stress, priorities and responsibilities I have right now. It's gonna happen though!
