Anyone ever had them? Do you think it's a physical root or psychological? How do you deal with it? Do natural sleep aids help with the problem or make it worse as artificial oness do?
I am looking into this for my boyfriend who is slowly converting to a natural lifestyle. I can't believe the things that are prescribed for this! Clonazepam? RITALIN, for crap's sake??!
Alexandra,
I think i've had both. When you say Sleep paralysis, is that when you are awake and can't move.
I've had this happen to me about 3 times in my life, and boy were they scary. I heard though, it's basically from you waking up too fast. Even though your mind is awake your body isn't. It is a very scary experience to go through though, because I remember trying to scream for help, and nothing came out.....scary
As far as night terrors, like he feels like he is seeing something evil?
Well, I can share an expereince with yu here. I have had 2 experences, but i'll only say the one, because the other is too disturbing. but the one that i had that freaked me out, was I was laying on my side. I opened my eyes, and saw this devilish looking boy smiling at me really big smile. I was in a state of half awake, and half sleep stage. I really believe that was the devil looking at me, being the d evil takes on many forms. man, you bet I was scared, but I kept on thinking I shoudl be more afraid of God, then this little devil. It was so real, because I was awake, but yet i was in a state of half sleep too. Is this what you are talking about?
As far as prescriptions go, I did not take anything for it, I think it is something that comes and goes as far as the sleep paralysis, since i have not had it again in a while
Oh, I have another story that is really scary. Not sure if anyone has ever experieced this, but i had a dream.
Mary- came down from the sky. The sky was dark bluish/purplish. It was scary too, because for a moment I thought the end of the world had come in my dream, even though i felt like it was real while I was having the dream. I knew something was wrong, because we know Jesus is suppposed to come down from the sky. I was shaking and scared. I was crying, saying, 'mary, mary, mary, she looked at me and smiled a devilish smile. .then my dream ended.
The very next day in church, my friend told me that yesterday which is the same day i had my dream, she dreamed that satan was after me.
It was a wierd feeling that we both dreamed about satan looking at me and going after me in the other. Basically we both agreed that it just meant that the devil sees me as a threat in his plan and wants to make me afraid of him by doing thigs like going in my dreams. I have not had a nightmare like this though since. thank God for that.
Hello. my mother and two sister both experiance sleep paralysis, never had night terros though. they allsay the same thing.. they wake up and can not move, they try to scream or get their partners attention but to no avail. my mother asked her dr and he said when this happens to just relaxe and deep breath and youwill eventualy fall back to sleep. my sister said she did research and sid that she heard that when this happens it has something to do with astral travel, when you re-enter your body you wake up or something, lol im not sure but just thought i would pass this on, oh it seems that only women get this problem i have never heard of this happening to men..
Thanks for the reply!
I believe "night terrors" is a lay term for sleep paraysis. I actually personally know two males who have experienced it--my boyfriend is currently having them about 1-2 times monthly, and I know another male who had them, who--unfortunately, whether or not related to the night terrors-- died in his sleep at the age of 19 from a heart attack. This is why it concerns me so much. I am not saying that night terrors caused his death but it could very well be indicative of an underlying problem.
Ugh, I can't believe her doc told her just to take a deep breath. Anyone who has ever experienced or known someone who was afflicted understands that it is truly "paralyzing."
