Does anyone know the best oil to use in a deep fryer?

I have a brand new deep fryer that I can't wait to use. I normally use Extra light virgin olive oil for low and medium cooking, but I know it won't work for my deep fryer. Any suggestions? I want to use the healthest oil possible that won't burn.

Here you take a look and see which ones will meet your needs. If its a fry daddy type deep fryer your using I think the heat to about 375 F but don't quote me on that.

Hi TBear,

Peanut oil probably tastes better, but I would advise using Canola Oil. It's healther and is one of the oils recommended for deep frying. For the record, I do not advise deep frying foods, but I understand that everyone makes their "exceptions" sometimes (I MUST have potato chips once in a while). :)
I was looking at this website http://www.eniva.com/products/prod_omega9.html and saw t his oil that they say is just fine for high heats and temperatures. They say it is perfect for frying, etc. Check it out. I have never tried it, but just thought you would be interested.
Sarah,

Thanks for sharing this. Looks great.
This seems interesting. I need to see if I can find out how high the temperature can be for this product and how hot my deep fryer gets. Thanks for the link.
Will coconut oil not handle those extreme temps? This would be my choice if so!
Coconut oil will only go to about 350 F before it starts to break down
Scott,

Oh, too bad! Hmmmm....more reasons for me to go raw and cook less!LOL! I still use my coocnut oil to sautee, etc but what would you suggests for deep frying?
Canola oil is the healthiest only one I could find. :)
rice brand oil check this out .because I not sure. ok
I would use grass fed beef lard. Not canola. wouldnt touch it. Not healthy.

Or safflower oil if you are vegan.
Hi Christine, thank you for the info.

I knew canola oil wasn't the best choice for an oil (I use organic butter and olive oil mostly), but since it was an ingredient in the Hunza bread recipe and is suggested as a protocol under "chemical poisoning, on the naturalcures.com website, I didn't think it was all that bad. Your comment really got me thinking. I researched the web and found a lot of conflicting information:

Whole Foods has a very interesting article advocating canola oil: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/wholebody/ingredients/canola.html

Columnist David Lawrence Dewey condems it: http://www.dldewey.com/columns/canola2f.htm

Also, I found many more articles condemning canola oil. Since there is no "canola" plant or nut, etc., I think I'll start using something else. And after reviewing the NC website again, I see it is listed along with the "bad" oils under Osteoarthritis.

This would probably make for a great discussion all by itself!

Please let me know why you would rather use safflower oil. Also, where would someone obtain grass fed beef lard? Thank you!

To your health.

Linda
