Thanks I needed to hear that. Did you try the steak thing when the weight got higher? Does that work? I know on the HCG they said if you were stuck at a plateau to only eat apples for the day (and no water), but what about this phase in between HCG phases?
Yes, steak day WORKS!!! Many people can't take a day of being hungry like that, so they have a small protein at lunch (little chicken breast, fish, egg) and a small salad, then a medium size steak with small salad for dinner. It works just about as well. I also know that those who switch over to organic foods maintain much easier than those who don't.
You want to be sure to eat enough, but not more than your appetite requires. You should be eating 6 times a day: 3 meals, 3 snacks. It keeps your metabolism at a more consistant level. Focus on proteins and veggies, but include a couple of small fruits a day. Don't worry about the fats, but don't go overboard with them. Don't count calories!!! Let your body tell you what it needs.
I have never done an apple day, just stuck it out and waited for the stall to move again. Between p2's you just want to maintain. Consider taking magnesium (I take 1000mg a day) to keep your bowels moving nicely ;-)
I know many people who have continued their meds while on p2. There are some that are necessary for life and you just can't quit cold turkey. Everyone does fine. In most cases they can lower their doses and often quit before p2 is over!
OK, I am FRUSTRATED! Yesterday was my FIRST day to eat real food and I followed the protocol exactly and gained TWO POUNDS.
What now? Surely I am not going to have to start the steak thing on the first day. I am beginning to feel that all of the hard work for the 6 weeks to lose the weight was for nothing if I am going to gain it all back in the 6 weeks waiting to go back on the HCG.
You have to be careful going into p3. Some can jump right in and EAT, but most of us have to relly watch our appetite. Eat mostly proteins and veggies, just a little fruit, drink plenty of water. Don't limit fats, but don't go over-board on them either. Here is a menu you might try:
Breakfast: coffee with creamer and stevia, 2 eggs w/
turkey sausage, onions
Mid-morning snack: Apple w/ peanut butter
Lunch: Hamburger pickles with a little ketchup, small
salad with REGULAR dressing
Mid-afternoon snack: Almonds
Dinner: Turkey, broccoli with a little melted cheese,
salad w/regular dressing
Late-night snack: Organic trail mix (nuts and fruit)
Breakfast: 2 eggs w/ green peppers, onions, ham and
plum
Mid-morning snack: Organic Trail Mix
Lunch: Ham with green beans, small salad with
REGULAR dressing
Mid-afternoon snack: Apple w/peanut butter
Dinner: Steak, broccoli, salad w/regular dressing
Late-night snack: Almonds, strawberries w/ Brie
cheese
You must realize that when you put more food in your body, everything has to chemically balance (retain water). There is also the weight of the bulk you ate. I find, though, that when you eat ONLY what your body wants to satisfy hunger, it is pretty easy to maintain. Especially if you have switched to organic foods. And instead of doing a "steak day" you can try a modified steak day (small chicken breast or fish for lunch w/ small salad; medium size steak w/small salad for dinner), or a protein day (just enough protein nibbles all day to keep you from being hungry and small steak/salad for dinner), or an egg day (up to a dozen free range eggs during the day). Steak day works best, but the others just about as well.
Dr. S talks about weight fluctuating wildly during these 3 weeks, be patient, carefully watch your appetite and don't eat a bite extra. By the end of 3 weeks, and probably much sooner, you should be up around 2000 cal and stablizing!
I only eat organic. Here is what I ate yesterday and I can't understand why I gained over 2 lbs.
1 egg and 2 pieces of turkey bacon and 1/4 cup yogurt with blueberries for breakfast.
1/2 apple for snack
Salad with 2.5 ounces of salmon for lunch
1/2 apple for snack, small handful of nuts
Tacos for dinner (no shell) just burger, lettuce, tomato, onion, and small amount of cheese with salsa for dinner
Followed by a grapefruit
I was proud of myself fo doing so well and then I gain all of the weight - VERY FRUSTRATING! Now I find myself on day 2 having to do the steak thing. What am I going to have to do for the next 6 weeks to keep it off?!?
Hi Becky, I had the same problem until I gained a total of 10 pounds back out of the 30 that I lost. I understand your disappointment.... I was doing a steak day every other day. Now I am getting ready to do the p2 again to get the 10 pounds off I gained back from the last time. Just like grammasmitty said just be very gradual and careful of what you are eating. And the sad thing is I see nothing wrong with what you ate just like me I did the same as you. So good luck with keeping the weight off!!
The things you ate are perfectly fine. It could be the amounts for this being the first day. I know Dr. S says to go ahead and eat what you want except for starch and sugar. But what I've found is that many people just can't jump right in with even this much. If I eat like that the first few days I gain! So, I cut back to tiny amounts and slowly increase as my appetite increases. I do much better like that. As the days go by my appetite increases and I have to eat more, little by little, to keep the hungries away. By the end of the 3 weeks you should be back to "normal" again.
When we have hcg in our body, it breaks down the fat and provides the body with as many calories as the body needs to burn for energy and nutrition each day. When the hcg is gone, we must have those calories supplied by the food we eat. With the extra bulk that we've put into our digestive system, the body needs to balance chemically in order to keep us working in good condition. It holds water! Also there is the weight of the food we've actually eaten that adds a bit to the weight.
In my opinion (because I do not KNOW what the physical process is) some of us don't get rid of the hcg quite as quickly as others. If I use a ketone stick and it says I am still burning fat more than 72 hours after after last injection AND I am still not hungry, that tells me I don't need to eat very much because my body is still supplying the calories and nutrients. My body will tell me what it needs, so I follow those cues!
