My two year old son has had alot of issues with constipation lately....altough he eats an excellent diet and LOTS of fiber, lots of raw veggies, fruits. The only thing he gets that is dairy is about 12 ounces of raw, organic cows milk daily. We have slowly been weaning him down but we can't seem to get him completely off of it and he ask for it twice a day......once in the early evening and before bed. He LOVES his milk and although it is raw we may have to replace it....make sure it's not what's making him constipated!

My question is this.......Should I go with Goats milk or Almond milk? I know goats milk is still considered dairy but says it's easier to digests, or should I go with Almond milk? Im concerned that he will not get enough calcium, etc that he needs and enough fat! What would you do? How should I go about slowly changing him over?

Jacob,

Thanks! I myself have been dairy free besides occassionally eating butter for about four months now. I can't hardly tolerate the stuff! I do ok with goats milk but prefer almond milk for myself. Im hoping to get my family away from dairy completely! I do intend to use a little goats milk butter though instead of the cows milk organic butter. Raw milk is the only dairy he's getting in his diet as of right now. I figured since it was raw.....it wouldn't cause any issues with the enzymes being intact and all. Im not a big dairy fan! Im just worried about the calcium, etc!

Jacob,

I have heard this too! He takes a whole food supplement as well so im sure he's getting calcium from there! I grew up on milk too and never broke a bone in my life! I also give my son molasses since it has lots of good plant based calcium!

That is the pasterized type, the raw milk breaks down better.

knowknow,

The milk he is on now is raw milk! I was thinking if I put him on goats milk it would need to be raw as well. The thing with almond milk is that it's pasteruized unless I made it myself at home.

I didn't know Almond milk was pasteurized. The one I buy is organic and sometimes I get unsweetened too but it doesn't say anything about being pasteurized anywhere on the box. I buy one in a orange box by a brand called Pacific.

Jen,

That's the brand I buy....if im not making my own. All almonds are pastuerized now in the United States by law. The only raw almonds you will find are those coming out of the country!

So you vote for raw goats milk? I guess it wouldn't hurt him if he had both goats milk and almond milk at this point. He's two years old so alot of milk at this point is not a big deal!

Goats milk is reknowned for being good for children. My mother gave it to us when we were children. She still drinks it. Its a little hard for me to drink due to not being used to the taste.

I think growing children, if not getting breast milk, should get another animal source which such as goats milk.

I went to two health food stores today and they only had the pasteurized kind! I only know of one place that sells it....I gotta get some and try it with him. We got almond milk today to try....but still wanna try the goats milk too. Im concerned he will not like the taste!
