Hi everyone! I'm new to all of this and I would like to know what I could replace my beloved Equal/Splenda with for my coffee, tea and the countless other items with which I use artificial sweetener. I am on anxiety meds and also have depression and so far from what I've read, aspartame could be a contributing factor. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I have tried Stevia. I think it tastes horrible!! Maybe it was the brand?

Agava nectar with some added stevia

For anxiety:
Progesteron Cream
Ashwagandha herb or extract
St John's herb or extract
Iodine
Bonemeal
Dolomite
Rescue Remedy
EFT techniques

Proteins in the morning, natural carbohydrates at night.

I also use Stevia! Stevia is a natural herbal sweetener but has zero calories. I don't think it tastes quite as good as granulated sugar does, but it is a close second. I use it in my coffee and teas that I drink.
Try it; but whatever you do, please give up the artificial sweeteners; they are extremely toxic to you.

There is another alternative called "Just Like Sugar"

Hi Lisa,
I would replace aspartame with natural brown sugar or natural honey (in limited quantities of course). In any case, it is far better than everything artificial. If you are already addicted to it too much, it would be hard to get rid of it -true. Besides that, I've read that Aspartame could be one of the causes for cancer, so I'm sticking to the old and good NATURAL ingredients. My mom was addicted to "Pepsi" and "Coke" sugars. Financial circumstances made her limit their use and within 3 years she stopped buying any fuzzy drinks (which are usually full of sugars-no matter the brand name) After that, she shared with me "It's all in your head dear, all in your thoughts!" You have to realize that it is only one body that you have on Earth and the healthier you keep it, the longer you will have it! Your thoughts have the power over your body - not the other way around!
As far as the depression, I would think about getting into sports, because when you do sports the serotonin level (the hormone of happiness) in your body rises and it naturally makes you feel better. You will be tired, yes! But it is worth thinking about the benefits of physical activity as well! Go out - get a dog and walk at least! Don't stay home between the 4 walls! Get together with people and talk about everything else but your health issues!! "Sharing" your problems will only pull you into the deeper levels of depression! Go to an Art class or try to learn something new about other people in other countries, how they live and what is their life like! Try to count your blessings rather than what you still do not have in this life! Last but not least - change your way of thinking and reacting to whatever is happening in your life!! This is one of the keys to overcome depression as a whole! Get advice from doctors if you need to. Once I was through a period of depression, too and I realized that if I succumb to my circumstances and "how my body feels", I would fall in a vicious circle and never get out! Some medicines only cover up the truth that they do not help at all - symptoms are treated and dealt with, but the cause is still there! Search for more info and you will find it! You can contact me if you want, too.
I don't wish you luck but all the best!

Stevia, organic sugar, honey, agave nectar, maple syrup, dates, fruit juice....

Anything but the aspartame! That is so bad for you! and stay away from the splenda too!

Good luck! I'm glad you are learning more about this...

I agree with Stevia. It's about the easiest thing to find.

It's made from sugar cane extract. They are available at Trader Joe's or Wholefoods. I use it for baking instead of refine sugar.

I have used turbinado for coffees or teas. Nothing wrong with it, other than it's still empty calories. I simply switched to honey.

What I like is that there is a honey farm about 35 miles from where I live, so all the honey I buy is raw and only run through cheese cloth once to remove larger particles.

If you can buy local raw honey, do so. It has the right local histamines that help with allergies, such as hay fever.

Ezmee:

I think it was KT that mentioned that it was good for allergies. I wouldn't know. I don't suffer from hay fever or any other pollen-type allergies since moving to Florida.

I had a hell of a time up north tho! Asthma-related allergies, eyes puffing up and itching like nuts... it all went away since moving here (go figure!).

But I still rather do honey over stevia. Stevia is bitter in coffee, I found. But a flavored liquid stevia in a bottle of water is a nice treat!
