"Suspicion is growing among scientists that sugar,
even fruit sugar is harmful to health and fitness.
Overweight adults who consume large amounts of fruit
are eating an acidic sugar called fructose which will
make you sick, tired and fat. Fruit sugar or fructose
is a toxic acid that comes from the ripening or
fermentation of fruit. Much like a banana that
gets sweeter and sweeter as it ripens or ferments.
The fruit sugar or fructose is the metabolite or
waste product from this process. Over many years
of research in the cause of under-weight or over-
weight I have found that people experience
alarming increases in body fat and insulin sensitivity
when they eat high sugar fruits like bananas, apples,
oranges, pears, watermelon, pineapple, mango, just to
name a few," states Dr. Robert O. Young, of the
pH Miracle Living Research Center.

Fructose is not only found in fruit but is also found in
fruit juice and preserves which are also highly acidic.
But much of it sneaks into our diets though high-fructose
corn syrup (HFCS) in soft drinks -- which gets broken
down into 55 per cent fructose and 45 per cent glucose
in the body - or via sucrose (ordinary sugar), which is
broken down into the same two toxic acidic sugars.

Fears that fructose is fuelling the obesity epidemic
and triggering insulin resistance and diabetes has
been circulating for years (New Scientist, 1
September 2001, p 26), but there have been few
direct investigations in humans, except for the
blood work of Dr. Robert O. Young, at the pH Miracle
Living Research Center.

Peter Havel at the University of California, Davis,
persuaded 33 overweight and obese adults to go on a
diet that was 30 per cent fat, 55 per cent complex
carbohydrates and 15 per cent protein for two weeks.
For a further 10 weeks, they switched to a diet in
which 25 per cent of their energy came from either
fructose or glucose.

In those given fructose there was an increase in the
amount of intra-abdominal fat, which wraps around
internal organs, causes a pot belly and has been
linked to an increased risk of diabetes and
cardiovascular dis-ease. This did not happen with
the first group.

Those who consumed fructose also had raised levels
of fatty triglycerides, which are deposited as
intra-abdominal fat, and cholesterol. Their insulin
sensitivity also fell by 20 per cent. Havel presented
the results at a meeting of the Endocrine Society
in San Francisco last week.

Because Havel's test looked only at pure fructose,
not HFCS or sucrose, it is not yet clear whether
these substances are to blame for obesity and diabetes.
"The question is, what is the amount of HFCS or normal
sugar you need to consume to get these effects?" says
Havel, who is planning a long-term study to find out.
But he says it's not too soon for people with metabolic
syndrome or acid syndrome - the blend of conditions
including belly fat and insulin resistance that raise
the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular dis-ease -
to avoid drinking too many fructose-containing
beverages.

"It adds to what we have known for a long time," says
Francine Kaufman at the Keck School of Medicine in
Los Angeles. "It's probably not a good idea to consume
too much sugar."

According to Dr. Young, "the perceived need for sugar
is in reality the need for mineral salts. The
body runs on electrical energy not calories from
sugar. Salt provides the conduit for the transport
of electrical energy through the body to each individual
cell. That is why our blood is salted with sodium not
sugar."

"It is the acid sugar that makes us fat. Fat is one
of the most important buffers of acidic waste
products like sugar. If you want to gain weight or
lose weight you have to stop eating sugar in any
form. All sugars are acidic and compromise the
delicate pH balance of the body. The body will
only retain weight to buffer excess acids that are
not properly being eliminated through urination,
perspiration, respiration or defecation. A person
is not over-weight they are over-acid and fruit,
fruit juices, exotic fruit drinks, preserves and
soda with fructose are all major acidic contributors,"
states Dr. Young.

it must have a different effect on different people... i eat massive amounts of fruit and i only gain weight and feel bad when i eat carbs and sugar(sucrose, ect. not fruit sugar).

My body HATES carbs! I can't stand the way I feel when I've eaten a baked potatoe or some simple type carb like oatmeal.....I feel totally like crap. My body loves simple foods like veggies, fruit and LOTS of protein. Of course.....not all of the protein coming from meat!
Of course people who drink tons of sodas are fat. We all know sodas are sugar, water and flavoring. Nothing more.

However, starting to blame apples and mangos for belly fat is ridiculous.

Anyone who eats a naturally balanced diet of whole foods is not going to have any of the above problems. Fruits are a wonderful source of all kinds of vitamins and even fiber and should not be eliminated from anyone's diet.
so what God created for us to eat is not good??? I believe fruit is excellent.... what are we going to end up eating... leaves?
everything in excess is bad, but not eating fruit at all, with moderation... I don't think so.
I have spent the last few months on here getting adivse and reading and hopefully learning !!! I do not believe that what is good for one is good for all. I have tried a few things and they did not work for me. I found out that some kinds of fruits are NOT good for me as well as some veggies--all of which I like and have been eating because of all the good things I have read about them. I have also put on 5 lbs while doing this and was getting pretty mad about it. In the last month my daughter has lost 10lbs going to weight watchers and eating a balanced diet. Like Marylin keeps saying to me----this is what worked for her and that I have to try different things to see what works for me. I read some where, and it could have been on here, that fruit is suppose to be eaten in the morning on an empty stomach, which could have somthing to do with the fermenting thing that someone was talking about on here a few pages back. We do need protien and fat in our diets ---- from one source or another. I never had belly fat till this last winter---no idea where it came from. Until I got on here I very seldom ate fruit at all. Maybe a few grapes here and there. I like most fruit but most of them seem to really upset my stomach a lot. I pretty much gave up eating meat except for chicken and I am dying for a BRAT right now !! ha ha I also believe that a balanced diet is the way to go. All this other stuff like the smoothies and juices are a real PLUS as far as our health goes. I really have no answers so will keep looking to find what is good for me and enjoy everyones input and add mine every now and then.
VIC - That is all you can do is keep researching and learning. I have been doing that for 7 years and I am still confused about what is right and wrong. Seems there really is no answer, just have to keep trying different things to see how your body reacts. Healthy blessings to you.
HMMM, dont know what is missing and I have been researching for along time trying to find out? ? ? ? LOL the more i read the more confused i get.

Did anyone ever figure out what the "forbidden" fruit was? Lets start another discussion on that.... that should be interesting.. Let the debate begin....
oh no! i just picked a bunch from my garden. they have never bothered me that i have noticed but maybe that is why all my children avoid them.... OH BOTHER. Something else to ponder.
Holly---just got back and found 118 entries on here to look at. I was reading over the long holiday and found a lot of places that said to detox the liver----I have that stuff on order so hope it is here soon.
Here is a challenge for all of you that are making your opinion without reading his work. Get the book, the ph miracle, the ph miracle for diabetes, Sick and Tired or any of his other books and read his research.

Not sure how anyone can think he is deceptive or suspicous without reading his work or doing more research on the subject. There are alot of prominent researchers out there that totally agree with him. He has a very good track record in healing thousands of people. Thanks and let me know when you are done reading.

You think it's a fruit conspiracy or something, not sure why you are so skeptical, what could be the reason for him to be putting this info out? Darn girl you are paranoid. LOL - I will forward it to you if you want, give me your email address and i will forward it.
You're right, i dont have all the answers, Never said i did. You can disagree all you want, doesnt matter to me. I hope you can find it because i have no clue where to begin to look for it. Like i said it was a email to me.

I was trying to be light, i was kidding about the fruit conspiracy.... and paradoid, who needs to lighten up?
