My question is: how do I reduce a fever for a 1 year old? I tried a few things, but nothing worked. Her temp got to 102.2 and I broke down and gave her tylenol. Fever went down and she is sleeping now. What should I do in the future without using meds?

The real problem is worrying about a fever, 102.2 really is not that bad and some fevers if maintained can help the child eradicate the disease that is bothering them.

However, the best things I have found to lower them in a baby are homeopathic medicines i.e. teething, colic, etc.

Tylenol is the number one cause of liver failure when taken correctly.

As bad as I think doctors are, my peditrician would keep a writeup on his walls about fevers and how beneficial they could be.

I know fevers are good for the healing process but how do I maintain it without going to high?

I have pondered this question also. I believe as long as the child is responsive (sleeping should not be seen as a bad thing as the body heals), takes fluids and remains cognisant(sp), all should be well.

I now just use my hands to predict how hot my child is, this works well for me and takes away the unecessary stress. In fact I can now tell the temperature even with out the thermometer (when I did my tests).

By the way whenever my children were sick they would always sleep with me. This way during the night I could be assured all was well.

For the record,I'm a father, not a mother.

Shes not sick anymore, but heres the situation anyway.
Shes not nursing, shes not drooling alot, no diaper rash, she doesn't want to eat much of anything, she is excessively fussy, and no runny nose.

Typically, shes not very cuddly, she can't sit still, always on the move. While sick, all she did was cuddle and lay about with not much energy at all. She usually wanted mom.

Now, shes active again and has her appetite back and no more fever, but she is still a little fussy and always wants mom. She doesn't want anything to do with me at the time being.

This is the case,
Jason

Its kinda funny, my daughters name is Charlie.

Anyhow, the fever is gone and she doesn't favor a certain part of her body.

I don't believe its colic, the past couple of days, shes been back to normal until mom comes home from work, then all she wants is to be stuck to mom and shes fussy till she goes to bed. Even when she is stuck to mom, she is still fussy, just not as bad.
