I have twins, a boy and a girl. They eat organic fruits and veggies. I do give them a little dairy with yogart each day. They are vegetarian for now. Our doctor said that their iron has been low and keeps trying to get us to add meat to their diet & or iron fortified foods. I don't think this is the only way. Does any one have this issue with their children? Know what foods to give them that are extreamly high in iron?? Any information? I had low iron my whole life. It does have genetic components. But my doctor is giving me the impression that I am harming my children by not giving them these foods to boost their iron faster. ARG! They say it will impair their ability to learn and brain function.

Thanks very much. I ordered a organic childrens multi, it's just taking a very long time to arrive. 11 points is the standard. My son is a 9.5.

I am researching blackstrap molasses and am wondering if the mild flavored one is just as good as full flavored? Does this matter. Never bought it before.

Their bowels move several times a day. Actually I only have one or two wet diapers. I am not sure that humans HAVE to eat animals to maintain good health. I know lots of vegetarians that don't have this problem. Liver Congestion? My children are so young, eat well, excercise and sleep. How could a liver become congested?

Thanks for the link. Very informative. I do get a lot of flack for not feeding meat to my children. I am not a vegetarian myself. Nor is my husband. Something in my gut just tells me that it is not for my children right now and I am just listening to it.

My son had this issue when he was a baby as well! We do eat meat though but not alot so we have to watch our iron as well.

Must be something with the meat and the milk that gives kids what they need. Buy orgainc meat and raw milk. If your kids are anemic then maybe your gut feeling is all wrong and you should start feeding them some organic meat and raw milk--cheese--good stuff like that.

Actully we just got results back and turns out our doctor was completely wrong. My son is now not anemic and I did this just by adding more veggies/beans/fruits that are loaded with iron. Mother's instinct is there for a reason and anyone that would doubt may get what they want right away but I fear it does have its consequences. People DO NOT need meat to survive. OR to be healthy. I was looking for foods (not meat) that had higher iron content. Now I do not need this. My son and daugher are super healthy. They did a entire blood panel and all their levels are awesome. I think sometimes doctors have the best intentions but over react to simple nutritional deficiencies and it could be as easily solve with a can of beans. I will stick with mother's instinct from now on. Thanks for all your replys and suggestions.

Bambi,

That's great that all is well now! I think giving the sorghum molasses daily would be a GREAT supplment anyways whether they have low iron or not. It's a FOOD for sure! I was gonna tell you about Floradix iron and herbs as well. It's an herbal supplement that supplies natural forms of iron, etc with herbs and is vegetarian. And YES....moms do know best!
