I've searched the boards trying to see if this has been covered but I don't think anyone has raised the question of age concerning the Simeons protocol. I know this is not a board full of doctors and nurses, but of both experienced and inexperienced protocol users, and I'd like to put my question out there and see what you think.

I'm 21 years old and about 20 pounds overweight. My weight problem only developed within the past year and I attribute it to anti-depression medicine (lexapro) I was prescribed. I never had a weight problem before I went on these drugs, I was skin and bones and I ate whatever I wanted to...carbs, fats, you name it. I recently came off the medication and I thought the weight would come off as quickly as I put it on. Unfortunately that was not the case...even with proper (mostly) organic diet my weight will not budge. I am scared that the drugs have done my body permanent damage, not to mention my mental health has suffered since coming off the pills and after reading KT's book it finally makes since why someone my age would suddenly put on so much weight.

It seems to me that HCG is the perfect way to get my body and mind back on track. Everyone I have spoken to raves about the mental benefits of HCG as well as the weight loss. My concern is that I am too young for such a drastic step. Every clinic I have checked out says the minimum age they will treat with HCG is 30. I want to take a DIY approach and order the drugs myself so this does not concern me, but I am wondering if there is a reason for the age limitation? From what I gathered HCG is a naturally occurring hormone so I don't understand.

If anyone on these boards is around my age and has successfully treated themselves/been treated with HCG injections I'd love to hear you, and if not I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter anyway.

Also, has anyone on these boards with depression tried Alphacalm, recommended by KT also?

I read somewhere in Kevin Trudeau book that HCG has been use to treat obese kids in India. I don't know where they get the age limitation for HCG from.

Thats a really good point, I remember that too...I feel like it's probably more of a liability issue with these clinics, or maybe the fact that they don't want 18 year old runway models trying to sign up!

I am 23 and I am on day 32 on phase 2 with outstanding results. Read my blogs so you can get a better understanding. Only thing is that this is serious diet and injecting yourself is no joke so I would do plenty of your own research before starting this protocol.

Hi Christie,

I am a nurse, but I have no idea wht some clinics place an age restriction. One of my daughters is 22 and doing this with me. She had 60 lbs to lose. She has been averaging 1 lb per day. Her menses is still regular with normal flow. No problems at all.

that is great to know...your daughter is very fortunate to have your support!

Rhonda, I'm interested in your opinion...do you think it is dangerous for someone with 15-20 pounds to lose to try the protocol? I am interested in the overall health benefits and long term affects as well as just the weight loss. For example, diabetes runs in my family and in my research I've heard several mentions of the protocol "curing" diabetes. It's also said to have mental health benefits, not to mention that I love the idea of being able to eat what I want after the protocol is finished. If I don't want to lose more than 20 pounds, should I do a shortened version of the protocol for only about 15 days or so?

Hello,
I am only 19 years old. When I called the number on the site, they said I had to be at least 27. Why should I have to be 27, I'm an adult!? If you have a weight problem and it's affecting you and your health, there should be no age limitation as long as it is reasonable. For example, I wouldn't want a 12 year old to do this, but if she's really obese, have tried other methods first but still can't get the weight off, then with her parent's permission let her do it. Let her be happy too. Just being obese can cause so much mental damage on kids, on everyone. I'm not really obese, but I am overweight to the point I feel uncomfortable, and I had to do something. I'm about 30 pounds overweight at 5'2" and I tried all sorts of diets. What really made me so self-conscious (I believe) was how girls looked on the cover of magazines and in movies. It just ate away at my every day life. Should I eat this, or that? Is my stomach showing? Making excuses not to go to class, or other public places. It threw me into depression, which I still get little lapses of once in a while. So I guess it's just the mind set the society put on me, gaining weight after high school was really hard for me. Anyways, I'm on day 5 of phase two and have lost 7 lbs. If you think this is something that is going to help you in any way, I would do it. It has helped me gain more confidence. Like the other people said, it's probably a liability thing. But if you're legally an adult, then I don't see what the problem is. Maybe they think since we're still young it'll come off easy, but that isn't always the case!

I also take lexapro. I gained 23 lbs the first 2 years then this year my dose was increased and i have gained 25 lbs more. I work 16 hour shifts and only eat one time a day so i just figured that was what was causing my wt gain.of course there are some days where you eat more than once but for the most part that has been the way i eat. I have been off the lexapro for about 2 weeks now and am really having a hard time with the mood swings(crying for almost no reason) I have ALOT of stress in my life!!! So I am also interested to know if the alphacalm works or if there is anything else i should try.

Pam,
I too have depression. I still fight with it a lot, but I won't take anything for it. I used to take St. John's Wart, I think that's a natural medicine for depression. I do remember that it worked pretty well for me. What I do now is make sure that if I feel depressed to just talk to my grandma or someone else that listens and tries to understand. I just cry, and let all my tears out. I found out that for me, a lot of times just crying helped me to feel a lot better if I needed to get it out and talk to someone. I also made sure to get lots of sun. I don't work, and am a full-time college student. There was a period where I didn't want to go to a school because I was self-concious and shy, so I took online classes. I stayed in the house nearly all day every day. OH MY GOSH, did I find out that the sun helps bring up your mood, even if you're in it for 5 minutes. Just go for a walk, get out in the sun, and try to be happy. My grandma also gave me a little flip calender that's called word's of wisdom from grandma. I set it in my bathroom, and every morning I turn it to the current day and read it and think about it. It instantly makes me happy. I also pray for help whenever I'm feeling depressed, but I don't know if you're religious or not. Anyways, I would try St. John's Wart, I'm pretty sure it's natural.

Amanda,
Yeah I think it is too. I tried it several years ago, but at that time I was so STRESSED out with work esp. and just life, that I gave up and went to my gyn.(the only M.D. I go to) Funny huh seeing how as I am a nurse. But anyway I was to the point of wanting to run my car into the nearest tree (but i was afraid that it would hurt, I was looking for instant death no pain) At that time I was a secretary and pretty much ran the business. Too much for one person!!!
Yes I do alot of praying also, I believe that is what gets me through the days. I also stay outside. I love to garden and just work around in the yard. My mom lives close and between the two of us we have about 8 acres of yard to keep up with. I also have 2 horses that I fool around with.
But anyway, back to the subject, maybe I will give st. johns a try again but I know I am driving my husband crazy... Thanks alot,
Pam
