After I brushed my teeth this morning I did my usual, I used Listerine mouth wash. Curiosity took over and I peeled back the small area on the back to reveal the "inactive ingredients." Ummm what? Why do I need yellow dye to freshen my breath. Does anyone know a natural alternative to conventional mouth wash? I use Hydrogen Peroxide when I feel a little scratchiness in my throat, but I am not sure how safe it is to use it twice a day, every day.

Ha yea... I thought I would too... then I think about what's actually in it. GROSS! I've been doing a lot of comparing of organic and conventional products recently. My dad was very impressed that the ketchup I bought did not have corn syrup in it. Why is there corn syrup in ketchup? It is so amazing what junk is going into peoples bodies and they truly have no idea. I wish everyone would take the plunge and become more educated.
Tom's of Maine has a great mouth wash that I have been using for years. The one I like is the Speamint, natural cleansing. And, what's great about this product is you can find it just about anywhere, even Walmart.
I've started using Tom's of Maine toothpaste and now I can't use anything else. I'll have to try the mouthwash. Tom's is one of the few things I buy at Wal-mart; it's cheaper there than at the health food store. But anyway, I love the toothpaste. (Maybe I'm bias because I live in Maine!)
Also, if you look at the labels of conventional foods, you would be surprised how many products include corn syrup abd other crap!
Once you go organic, you can never go back!
Yeah, I don't agree with Wal-Mart and I don't buy there, but I'm used to talking to people who don't know a thing about this kind of stuff and they won't even consider visiting the whole foods organic store that I do my grocery shopping at, so I was just thinking of the most widely available mouth wash that I like thats an alternative that I could think of. If you don't like Tom's of Maine and if you don't want to make your own or can't find another one you like, I would recommend going to your local whole foods or natural foods store, they usually have a wide variety of different brands to choose from wheather it be mouth wash or deoderant.
I love Tooth and Gums Tonic made by Dental Herb Company. It is a little pricey and is only available through a dentist, however it is all organic, alcohol free and made without chemicals. A little goes a long way.
One of the healthiest mouthwashes is to buy food grade hydrogen peroxide and dilute it to 3%. This way you aren't using the store bought stuff that has other junk in it. If you research hydrogen peroxide therapy you will be amazed at the health benefits!
The best solution is to gargle your mouth using "extra virgin sesame oil' for 5 mts. Check the time. Then gargle with warm clean filtered water ( non fluoridated, non chlorinated water). Not only will the teeth get whiter but also the bad breath vanishes.
I have personally used this to get rid of periodontitis which the dentist said was almost on the final stageI and this was leading not only to bad breath but also bleeding gums. Not to mention the thousands of dollars and time which were saved by not wasting my time to visit the dentist.
By the way I still have the amalgams in my teeth which I have to eventually remove, as these were the main cause why I had got into this issue. So still have to go to a dentist to take these off now.HAHAHA.
