I ordered the Weight Loss Cure book and when I read about the protocol and what it entails I was totally discouraged. I thought I was going to be able to do this program and learn how to become healthy and lose weight however the program involves spending a lot of money in buying supplements, going to the doctor, and buying all organic foods. I have to have help just to pay my rent. I even had to think twice about getting the books because of the cost. I don't have medical insurance so can't even see a doctor unless it's an emergency and even then I would be paying for the visit for a very long time.
Has anyone realistically looked at how much all the suggested products and treatments cost? Does this mean that people like me are just doomed to be fat?
I really believe in natural cures and wish I could afford to follow the protocol but I can't. I know the old line about not being able to afford being unhealthy and all but do these people live in the real world? I just wonder if the organic food stores and such aren't also about making as much money as possible just like the big corporations who sell all the chemically laden foods making us fat. Sure seems like they would be under the same pressure of making sales as any other company.
I must say that at least the book got me to thinking. I just wish I hadn't had to spend money on the book rather than on heating my apartment.

Hey unfortunately organic food prices are pretty high but personally I have found that when I eat organic I get full a lot quicker. My suggestion to you is to introduce an organic diet into your lifestyle for starters. I can totally sympathize with you, I am completely flat broke but I try to buy organic where it counts. I try to get organic dairy, produce, and meat which I believe to be the most contaminated. As far as wheats and rice and all that nonsense, pasta blah blah blah so on and so forth, i don't really splurge on because the pesticides in fruit, hormones steroids and mistreatment of animals reflecting on whats in your meat and dairy is a what I believe to be a way bigger issue. Fortunately for us more people want to eat organic and the prices are dropping dramatically. You can afford to eat organic if you do your research. Whole foods prices have been going down a lot so always try to keep on top of sales there. I got a bunch of things for really cheap there the other day. As for the supplements, bring them into your life when you have the extra money to spare every once in a while or suggest it as a stocking stuffer or something for Christmas. I have found that people including myself spend money frivolously and if you sit down and take the time to think about something stupid you spend your money on I'm sure you can cut something out and use that money to buy supplements instead. Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the reply Chelsea. I appreciate the tips you share. Unfortunately, there is only one health food store here and prices are still quite high. I do buy some organic when I can and I keep good track of my spending but money is still tight.
Maybe it wasn't clear that my post was referring to the weight loss cure protocol from Mr Trudeau's latest book. I was talking about the cost and wondering how to follow the protocol to lose the weight. The weight loss protocol says among other things to drink Yerba Mate Tea which I priced at the store today for $5.38 for 20 tea bags, eat 2 organic apples a day (these are $2.49/lb), and use extra virgin coconut oil which was $19 for 12 oz. I know the book says to do as many things recommended in phase 1 as possible but when over half of the steps are out of reach price-wise it sure makes me think that only well-to-do people can actually follow this protocol. That was just phase 1. Phase 2 gets even worse because you are supposed to go to a doctor to get hCG shots or be able to travel to other countries to get it. Yeah, I'll just hop on my lear jet and run to Germany for a shot. Also phase 2 says it, "must be done under the supervision of a licensed heath care practitioner". The book even states that doing the phase 2 diet without the hCG injections the person does lose weight, "However, they do not lose the problem area secure fat deposits." and "When they stop the diet they immediately gain all the weight back and more." ("The Weight Loss Cure" page 98). I'd like to know how many of the "hundreds of thousands of patients" (page 98) were people like me struggling to make ends meet. I bought the book thinking that there was some way to lose weight without paying for the expensive diet food or buying expensive diet products but it seems to me that Mr. Trudeau has only replaced those with expensive treatments and supplements. While I believe the protocol works I just wonder how many other people have bought the book only to be disappointed that the cure isn't within reach because of the costs involved. It's just disheartening.

I agree with Nancy. My husband and I are reading Kevin's books now. Some parts may seem repetitive but they make a lot of sense. It's always costs a bit more for the organic foods but I'm starting to see that it's well worth the money spent - kind of goes the same way for Hybrid cars, they cost more up front but you help the environment while you save money on gas (did you know it's illegal for hybrids to be sold in certain states? don't let me me started on that soapbox - LOL). I always wondered why every single OTC diet pill on the market was never endorsed by the FDA, but all of a sudden it endorses Alli...makes you think. I have quite a bit of weight I'd like to lose but if changing a few things at a time will help then that's what I have to do. While I'm here, can anyone recommend the supermarkets that offer more organic choices?

Hi Chelsea:

I am soooooooooooo glad you posted this topic because I can truly relate and sympathize with you. Don't worry, try getting you milk, eggs, meat and chicken organic to start. You know what I ended up doing? I mean, this takes a little more work and time but here's what I do now:

I buy organic milk, eggs, chicken and meat at a local grocery store. They sell organic and some of the products are even the same exact brand as those I found in whole foods. Then I go to Costco for my bottled water. I also found organic sugar and raw sugar there in larger quantities - way cheaper. I found this out the hard way after I bought sugar at Whole Foods AND a local Health Food Store. Some Walmarts even have some organic products, but mine doesn't :(

Also in the beginning, I just bought all the above and then bought all my fruits and vegetables at a nearby produce place that wasn't organic. I just couldn't afford everything I wanted. So I bought all my apples, vegetables and salad makings at the produce store and cleaned everything well with a weak soapy solution (with good water).

I was very frustrated in the beginning because once you find out all the facts, there's no going back and you feel bad when you're eating something you know you shouldn't. I know how that feels.

But, you can start out with buying your milk, butter or margarine, eggs, chicken and meat at a grocery store. Their organic products, I've found are cheaper. You can also sometimes, get very good bread at a grocery store if you really check your labels. You make sure there's no High Fructose Corn Syrup. Corn Syrup.and bread like 8 or 9-grain, and you're on your way.

Then, just try to change or add one thing just one at a time. Like maybe next time, you can try the Sprout bread which you can get at a health food store or whole foods store. Then maybe a few weeks later, you can can a shower filter. I've also received some great advice from friends here on the site about what stores they use and also some websites that sell teas, vitamins and supplements, sometimes cheaper than the stores and with no or low shipping.

Just don't give up, it's soooooo worth it. Why just last week, I saved a lot of money on my teenage son's skin care products. He is a 16-year old, cute, shy and great kid, my son and he has bad acne. Anyway, he had tried Pro Active, lots of over the counter products, but nothing even helped. Then I found some skin products at a store called Bath and Body Works at a mall near my home. My son starting using a skin toner and skin lotion, but it was kinda pricey. Anyway, this was before I was a member of this site and went organic, but the product worked but I just couldn't keep up with the cost of buying it., especially when my 13-year old started puberty and want to use his brother's stuff!!!

Anyway, my son hasn't had his skin care stuff for a couple months now, but last week, I started having him use Witch Hazel as a face toner (very inexpensive), 2 to 3 times a day and he also started using these two different organic soaps, one which has tomatoe in it I think. I also have my son taking Acidolphilus, 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening and started him on Garlic pills once a day. Lastly, I've been adding more garlic to his meals and encouraging hims to eat more salad.

Anyway, after only 1 week, there's been tremendous improvements, ALL without those expensive skin care products. Also, all the stuff I gave him (the acidolphilus and garlic, etc. I learned helped acne. I read this in a health guide that Whole Foods has displayed to look at). The funny thing is, I could only afford the Witch Hazel and garlic that week. My husband went ahead and bought the Acidolphilus but we didn't have enough for basic groceries. Anyway, see how things work out.

Hope this helps.

I feel the same way about the costs of Kevin's program. He makes it sound like it's going to cost just a couple dollars to loose all of your unwanted fat. The book has soooo much repeat information, another waste of money. I also bought his natural cures book and the info is all common sense info except for maybe 2 chapters full of useful information. All of the items that he recommends are sooooooooooo expensive. I feel defeated.

Diane,
I haven't read his Weight Loss book yet, but I lost a lot of weight by doing the candida cleanse.
I started an exercise program last year and worked out 5 days a week for probably 3-5 months without losing 1 pound. (How does that make sense to those people who say it's all about calories in and calories out?) But then I started the candida cleanse. And yes, it was a bit of a strict diet, but not really all that hard, and the pounds melted off. I didn't have a lot to lose - only 15 pounds. But it came off and has stayed off. That was back in July/August of 2006, and I haven't gained any weight back. In fact, if anything, I have lost more weight. It put my appetite back in check. I get full a lot faster and I don't get hungry between meals.

Just thought Ii'd throw that in there to give you some hope! You don't have to fly to Germany to do a candida cleanse!
Stay away from MSG because it is what makes us all fat. Do a search for all the hidden names of MSG and avoid them all.

Diane I agree. Though I am not in your situation, I have always known that living a healthy lifestyle is costly. Even in my twenties when it was not an issue I wanted to take care of my self internally and found everything too pricey. Now that I am older and finding I need to pay closer attention to my health it reminds me of the cost associated with it. What has pissed me off most is the natural cures website for charging a monthly fee to access some of the more "VIP" sections. They do not have a problem advertising all the suggested material and do not require me to pay to see that info, but the other stuff I want to see they charge. I am not upset that a business wants to make money; I am upset because in this area one would think KT is making enough off his books and could understand all the cost associated with this lifestyle and offer his site for free. When I log into other sites they do not charge a membership fee. So it does not seem necessary. His advertisers should be paying for the site. No matter where I turn everything is this enormous cost. People ask back in the day why blacks had high blood pressure, it was because it was cheaper to cook their foods the way they did. Same here and now. It is cheaper to be fat. (LOL).

Thanks to all for the replies. I'm glad I'm not alone in my feelings. I will look into the candida cleanse, Dot. At least there is some hope.
I do see more organic items at the local grocery stores and even Wal-Mart has gotten into the act however I often wonder if they are really organic or if it's just a ploy to get people to buy the items. Label reading is now a must. Even with reading labels the book made me wonder if there are things not included on the labels because the company that makes the item gets around the rules. The "all-natural" label is a scam so the "organic" one could be too in certain instances. I know around here the Safeway store has an "organic" section but there again don't know how much of it is truly organic and the prices aren't low. Then again it seems like even the regular items have prices that are going up every day.
Nancy, is hCG only injected or does it come as a pill? I'm wondering if it is even safe to administer it to yourself without a doctor's supervision, especially since Mr Trudeau specifically states that it should be under a doctor's care.

Dot,

I forgot to ask you which candida cleanse you used. There are several candida cleanse brands available at my local health food store and I am wondering which one to try. Any recommendations?

Thanks

Hi Diane,
I know what you are saying. When I bought the book (2 months ago) I was SO MAD!! Who could afford all this? Not to mention, basically it is illegal in the states.........unless you see a doctor. I work on a tight budget also, but decided to do the best I could. I found a lot of organic products @ King Soopers (or Kroger's depending on where you live). It is called Private Selection and much less pricier than other places. Also Walmart. This means I spend all day driving around until my list is done. Last resort is health foods. I also go to our flea markets, farmer markets. I couldn't afford the eleotin tea, but I am taking Essiac Tonic which is basically the same. It's less expensive and I found it at Whole Foods. To date I have lost only 17lbs but a lot of inches. I started everything on September 3rd (phase 1) and I just decided to do the best I can. I've had in total about a week of cheating, so I can't complain. I wish you luck and wanted to let you know you aren't by yourself in this!
