Hey guys, I am currently taking orth tri cyclen as a form of birth control. I haven't encountered any serious side effects, but I have noticed that my anxiety level has gone up. I also am just interested in going totally natural. If anyone has any suggestions as to the different types of "natural" birth control, I would appreciate feedback. Thanks for your time and also thanks for all the really interesting posts. I have been learning tons!
This is not natural...but let me share with you my experience with birth control. First...there was the pill...made me moody, got pregnant on it (had a miscarriage)..didn't regulate my cycle. I gave up for a while because I was allergic to latex, as well as had sensitivites to many other products. After settling down and having my family, I decided that I did not want to get pregnant again, but that I did not want anything permanent, and did not want to have to cross my fingers for months hoping I didn't get pregnant while "coming off" of the pill, which can cause birth defects. My cycle was still a mess, and my flow was so heavy it was interfering with my life. My Dr. suggested an IUD. At first, I said no way..because of all of the controversy with them in the past. She assured me that they have changed. I went in and had one put in (Mirena IUD) and now...I have a regular cycle, and it's so light I can wear a pantyliner! The cost? Well, luckily my insurance covered it...but if I had to pay for it, it was $500...but it's good for 5 years...which winds up being MUCH cheaper than any other method (except abstinence). Another plus...if you decide you want kids...you can go in, have it removed, and you are good to go with no known side effects (at least this is what I was told).
I will not change to any other method. What it has done for me has been priceless. The cons: well I was told during the procedure that it would feel like a contraction (but I just had a little cramping), and there was some cramping for a few days. Also...there was some intermittant spotting for the first few months.
That has been my experience. I can't say anything more than that about it. But if you are looking for something that you can't "forget" or doesn't cause the mood swings...I would get more info from the Dr.

Wow! I am so happy that you asked this questions. My boyfriend and I consistently debate about this topic. I eat mainly organic foods and live a very healthy lifestyle. He, on the other hand does not, so he does not understand why I want to get off of the pill. I hate to think about what it is doing to my body. It is the only prescription pill that I currently take. I absolutely hate taking it, but 'together' we decided it would be best at this point. I always worry about birth defects, especially because I was on Accutane as a teenager. At the time, I was not old enough or educated enough to make a decision about what I was doing about my acne. Please keep me updated on what you learn! Thanks again for asking this question!!
Good topic. I have a 5 mo old and 2yr old and don't want any more! I also won't take the pill either. So far we use condoms, as we have for the past 10 years with no accidents but are looking into NFP-Natural Family Planning. I picked up a brochure from my doc and there are training sites all over given by the Couple to Couple League: www.ccli.org or 513-471-2000. Home study course: 1-800-745-8252. It is NOT the Rythm Method and is proven to be 99% effective when done properly.
I read one member mention pennyroyal and ascorbic acid use as a natural abortion in her forum. I ask her if pennyroyal and ascorbic acid can be use as a prevent getting pregnant. And for some reason I got kick out of discussing. I don't blame her maybe I use the word abort or maybe I am a guy.lol
Anyway in effort to find out about pennyroyal, I did a google search on it. I found out that it can be use as a birth control. It can be fatal if taking in oil form but safe as a tea form from stem and leaves. Also found that vitamin C insert in the vagina can be use as a spermicide as sperm can't survive in a acid environment.I don't know if this website is for real but the website is from woman and for woman in my opinion. It also mention other herb. Give you the link to check it out http://earthasylum.wordpress.com/category/health/
wow, i'm glad I don't have to worry about what you guys are worrying about. As a Christian, I believe that when the Lord wants you to have children, then you'll have children. I watched this movie, based on a true story, I can't mind the name of it though. It was about a woman who grew up in India, and she was raped all her life practically since she was around 7 years old, which is when she was forced into marriage with a grown man. She was continually raped by her "husband" and gangs, and anyone that chose to have her. She never got pregnant once. No i don't think that's a coincedence, but fate. God simply did not want her to have a child in this manner. I truly believe that we don't have the right to decide if we want more kids or not, but rather what God wants. Again, I am not saying this to offend anyone here, I am not one to judge, I 'm just stating another way that another individual looks at life, and i'm only asking you to see that point of view.
I can respect your point of view and I love my kids dearly but I seriously do not feel like I can handle another one. I believe God will not give us more than we can handle, but I don't think my faith is that strong to not prevent another pregnancy. With all three kids I got pregnant the very first time we tried. I really do admire your faith. I wonder though about women who are not fortunate enough not to get pregnant from rapes. Maybe God wanted that for them or a plan for that child? I don't know. I do agree that with the proliferation of birth control came promiscuity, which is a very negative consequence and a good reason for the church to be against it. However, I am all for intimacy in a married, loving relationship while preventing pregnancy if desired. I'm totally against abortion because I believe the "choice" is made before conceiving, not after. As far as prevention, even the Catholic church condones and teaches NFP-Natural Family Planning. Thanks for sharing your Christian perspective though.
I feel the same way! I want two kids and I thinks thats all that I will be able to hadle and believe God would not give me more than I could handle. I want to try to do this natural! Im totally against any kind of abortion, etc! Im a christian as well.

I bought a product about 3 months ago called Lady-comp. I bought this from a website called www.naturalmethods.com. It is a device that you take your temperature every morning and it keeps track of your cycle and gives you red, orange, green lights. It takes a few months for the machine to track your cycles. I have only had 2 complete cycles on it and we are still using condoms during this phase. It cost just under $500 but the money was worth it because I was on the birth control pill forever and then was going to do the Mirena IUD which was the same amount of money. So I decided better natural than an IUD. They have testimonials on the website that you can read. Godd Luck and Happy Health!!
