Ok, my son will be turning two years old on December 15,th. Everyone around me is telling me we should start taking DS to see a dentists soon to have his teeth cleaned, etc. We have not taken him yet and im not sure how I feel about dentist. As good and as necessary as they are im not too happy with getting xrays, etc. Im not too concerned if it's just for a cleaning! I go twice a year to get my teeth cleaned but I skip the xrays, etc. Do you ladies think it would be safe just to have his teeth cleaned, etc? Are there any concerns or headsup I should be aware of?

naturenut,

I may order some of that mouthwash that was mentioned in the article! Looks promising! My son gets, cod liver oil daily, along with In-Liven, which is a whole food supplement with probiotics. What else should I be giving him?

I agree, dont worry. Putting him through the exam may not be good for his health. Too stressful for a little guy that doesnt understand why this man is putting is fingers and or instrumnets in his mouth.

Michelle,

Good idea! That's what I was doing during his first year of life is using a wash cloth. He hates me sticking a toothbrush in his mouth right now because he's cutting his two year molars which are very painful. Thanks!

My 2 yr old daughter is theee pickiest eater. She won't touch greens so I have to sneak them into her pancakes, juice them with an apple, and/or give her these green food supplements I found at a health store. I give her the cod liver oil too and just started a multi-v chewable w/ pro-bs from our new doc (homefirst.com). Other than that, kids are going to be picky - eat well one day, barely the next. All we can do is the best we can and try not to worry, they will be just fine. What you are NOT giving him is just as important too, like sugary drinks, candies, hot dogs, fries, typical "kids" foods. He's well ahead of most by this alone. I totally agree with Christine about tooth health coming from within- "One Body, One Health".

ezmee,

The bad thing about actually having military insurance is I feel that Im stuck with not so many healthy choices with healthcare! We are planning to all go and see a holistic doctor which I will have to pay out of pocket for but well worth it. I like Dr. Christophers products and that should help with her teeth. The best thing to do is to get her to keep them brushed and flossed which is hard to do with any child!LOL! I have six fillings that were recently replaced with something other than the mercury fillings that I had all my life. I feel that I could have eaten better when I was pregnant too but try not to beat yourself up about it. You can slow the process with good nutrition and hygiene! Im hoping to find a holistic dentists also!

Have you guys ever known someone who was a super -hygienic brusher? I had a boss who always brushed his teeth, morning, after each meal, before bed, even brushed at work, very meticulous too, not a big sweet eater. He came in one day with an excruciating toothache and ended up needing a root canal! He couldn't figure it out and it crossed my mind now and then. Well, when I was sitting in the dentist chair last week I read an ad by Crest about how caries form. The first step on it explained that there are natural bacteria on your teeth. Isn't it possible that if it is naturally occuring it BELONGS there??? Our bodies are filled with beneficial bacteria. Maybe he brushed all the protective layer away. I don't mean never to brush, but just maybe 'too much of a good thing' is harmful in this case too. What do you think?

hmm, interesting. Maybe. Like I said I think disease, even on teeth comes from the gut health. If your gut aint healthy nobody part is health. My tooth was healing from the inside! Wow we learn so much every day, I love this site!

Unbelievable! Where do we get more info about glyconutrients?

One of my health newsletters said that you could put a probiotic powder on your teeth/ gums. Kind of like brushing with probiotics I guess! It worked for that lady. It stopped her bleeding gums.

Nedalie,

I think I will hold off on the dentists until he is a bit older and that will give me time to find a holistic dentists also. He doesn't take a bottle anymore but I do catch Grandma giving him one, cause I see it sitting on the counter after he has been over there for the night. I don't give him bottles anymore, only sippy cups without the leak proof thingys. He only gets a sippy cup to carry around the house, other than that he uses a real cup at meal times. His teeth look fine from what I can see so im hoping I have done a good job. He still has alot of space between his teeth which I think once he gets his last set of molars they will push closer together. Having a hard time trying to floss them though. Thanks for your encouragement!

Cayce, I don't know what age you're "supposed" to take kids to the dentist. But I do think it's important to get the cleanings done, and to brush and floss. Periodontal disease is linked to heart disease and maybe other stuff too.

I have a holistic/ biological dentist, but they do take X-rays. I don't think they use fluoride, but I guess I should find out what's in the polish that they use when I get a cleaning.
