I have three dogs and they all have various problems that I believe is linked to the food that they eat. Does anyone have any relevant information that they may like to share?
My dogs get "The Honest Kitchen-Embark". I know it is all natural. Michelle may know more though haha, I don't claim them as my dogs (except my rottweiler) because they are ankle biters... they are my parents.
I feed my dog Organix, which is an organic dog food. No fillers, no by-products, all natural. She's been eating less than what she was (Science Diet) and her energy is still out the roof.
You might consider stopping vaccinations because I'm sure that would be a contributing factor to failing pet health.
We've been feeding our 2 dogs (Shepherd/Lab mix, Great Dane) Timberwolf Organics for a year now with decent results. Our Great Dane is doing great, but our Shepherd/Lab still has some allergy/skin issues every Summer.
So, I'm actually shopping for a top-notch probiotic-type supplement to add to their food.
I've seen the Castor and Pollux Organix brand, and I'm fairly impressed with the ingredients.
I can't recommend ANY pet foods offered by the major chains (PetSmart, PetCo, Wal-Mart, etc.). ALL of their brands are substandard with ingredients like corn, by-products, etc.. If you think back to just a few months ago when the dog/cat foods were being recalled, it involved most, if not all of the "Major" brands. These are the very same brands that are distributed by the BIG chains, Supermarkets, etc..
If you can't shop online, then try your locally owned pet stores. For one thing, you're supporting a local small business owner and secondly, you're NOT supporting the MEGA-Corporations and their domination of the marketplace. If none of your local shops carry what you're looking for, then simply ask them if they will order it for you. Most will.
Many, if not all Health Food stores now carry pet foods/supplements as well too.
Lastly, if you haven't looked into feeding your pets a "RAW" diet, I'd suggest that you give it some serious consideration. There are many online resources regarding "BARF" diets (gotta love that name, which actually stands for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food, although it used to mean Bones And Raw Food).
Hi
I have 6 dogs. 2 Germans, 2 Japanese Chin, Catahoula and a Keeshond. I feed them all Solid Gold "Hunk and Flaken"
I was mostly concerned with my German Shephard becuase he gets food allergies ( he would bite his feet and get skin issues, but since I went to the better food he does great. No problems at all.
All of them are very healty. I used to feed California Natural which was very good also. The solid gold can be a little rich, so if your dog has any digestive issues I would try the California Natural first.
I also add in Flax Seed oil daily to the food and it helps the coat!
I agree that a raw diet is best for both pets and people but can be expensive. Being single and owning 2 bulldogs I feed them an all natural dogfood that is cheaper and I have had good health results with it. Try feedthemwell.com. Watch the video and see what you think.
Two good foods are Karma (organic) which you can get at some health food stores and Blue Buffalo (holistic) which Petsmart carries. Read the labels carefully, you dont want any By-Products or corn.
I give my dog Inliven also like Michelle said.

I know a good friend of mine seems to always be giving her daughter's dogs the Limu and it helps with their illnesses. I noticed my health food store has organic foods for dogs try something organic for them too. If they are small dogs that won't be too expensive. But if you love your dogs like your own children then what ever it costs is worth them staying alive. If you are willing to go organic, do the same for your dogs. I don't think they require cleanses like we would, but a change in diet would not hurt. Inspired Works
