Hello everyone. I'm new to the site and I'm just trying to make some new friends. Please read my profile if you want to learn a little more about me and my beliefs. Anyway I'm just curious to see who out there is eating their greens? I know a lot of people have a hard time eating their veggies as much as they should be. Many people might not know that there are things out there to supplement eating actual raw veggies. Does anyone know about drinking "greens"? I'm sure some of you have seen wheatgrass shots at your local gym or health food store, but there are even more powerful superfood green drinks out there. Everyone should be including this in their daily diet everyday for optimum health. If you want to talk more on this subject feel free to contact me.

I never liked cooked collards, but it's something I'm consuming a pound of each week or so these days, after learning to eat them raw.

Marilyn,

There are so many variations to it! You can use pretty much any type of plant oil, etc. The idea is to marinate them and get them ready for better digestion but still have them in there raw form. Here's what I do!

I cut up my collards, kale or greens into shredded bits. I don't like real chunky bits...I like it fine. Then I mix in about a tablespoon of olive oil or Udo's. You can use any plant oil you like...hemp seed oil, almond oil....whatever your fancy. Then I squeeze a lemon or two onto the greens. You can also use apple cider vinegar but make sure it's raw and unpasteurized. I find the vinegar makes for a better taste....that is if you like the strong taste of vinegar. Also add a pinch of himalayan sea salt (pink salt) to help with the marinating process. Once you have added your ingredients you need to MASSAGE the green with your hands. Massage the oils and juice into the greens until totally saturated and wet looking. You want to let them sit for atleast two hours to marinate. I let them marinate longer in the fridge. You can also add any seed to it for extra nutrition. It balances it all out! My faves are raw pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds and sometimes I add a handful of raw, dried cranberries for a sweet taste. There are so many variations to it! I try to change the type of greens I use weekly like Kale, collards, etc.

OK, I call this "wilting" ... like a Wilted Kale Salad ... but I'd never thought of doing it to the other "heavy" greens ..... COOL!!

Marilyn,

Yeah.....pretty much! Now if you have leftover or make a big batch and leave them in the fridge overnight they come out pretty much marinated the next day and are soft, taste yummy. I like that it softens them and makes them easier to eat but are still in there raw form. The key is to get it soft! The collard greens take the longest to get soft this way and you have to use enough vinegar or lemon juice!

Green smoothies for me, too! I throw 4-5 handfuls of mixed baby lettuces, 2-3 handfuls spinach, 2 TBSP hemp protein powder, 1/2 - 1 tsp spirulina powder, 1/2 banana, water to blend. The vitamix really makes it smooth so there's no lumps. My husband and daughter won't even look at it!! My picky eater son loves it! (go figure). I usually drink about 2/3 of the blenderful myself. Before dinner I usually put cut up veggies on the table for the kids to snack on. If they eat all that and don't have room for dinner --- I'm okay with that!

I would love to hear more about the wheatgrass - could I just add it to my smoothie??

Ooops, forgot the 3-4 kale leaves and/or 2-3 swiss chard leaves! And ice. Just about to make one and realized I forgot them above!

I switch my superfoods in my smoothies, wheatgrass included ... I only put one or two a day.

How do you buy it? Is it a liquid? Powder? I've obviously never seen it. Do you add it "just as it is"?

At this point, I'm not sprouting - it's on my to-do list.

I buy the frozen wheatgrass ... comes in cubes, I throw 1-2 in my smoothie 2 or 3 times a week.
