Does anyone else think its about time we hassled the govt into making new laws in favour of small farms? They did it in Russia. Now over 80% of the country's fruit and veg comes from family domains, (small hectare plots)

I really haven't given this much thought.
I see our 'gov',s fighting to maintain 'control'. I see it 'crumbling' more and more each day.
I see a world where we will all go back to truth.....and what's really important.., (no more poverty-{we only have that because of the gov-GREED) that is, helping others. Giving, Sharing, Living a life of love, freedom, soverignty (for all) (I don't think this is just my 'fantasy'--Check out the Mayan Calendar's AMAZING, ACCURATE, history.. It's CLEAR, that that, IS, where we are heading. In order for that to happen, Our 'friendly' gov, must collaps..And so, it is..

Right on track Deni, The masses are conditioned to be materialistic/ egoisitic. Everyone wants to become something great. No one is happy to be simple, ordinary, happy, loving.
Our true nature is covered with layers of false teachings.

Karen your discussion involves govt therefore most people may not answer to this. Many live in fear.
Only through knowing self can one be open and free to discuss such topics.

How do you suggest we could 'hassle the govt' for this?

NO! THIS IS AMERICA! WE CAN'T ADOPT THE WAYS OF COMMUNISTS!

I've always thought what little control I still have is through how I spend my pathetic paper monopoly money. So I don't buy my grub from big chain stores, or from restaurants. I raise it myself, or buy from local people. I'm just one, but if enough people did it, it's just the old law of supply and demand. I'm probably kidding myself, but I can only change me and control my own behavior, so I do it anyways.

The government is trying to push through all kinds of crazy laws regarding farming and supplements... I get a newletter from American Association for Health Freedom who keeps us up to date on many of these things and has petitions as well.. And you can get involved there. Great place to check out.. Some other places that keep us up to date is naturalnews.com and mercola.com

Exactly Linda! The Australian and US govt are both very similar when it comes to who has control over the food. I'm with Weston Price and have signed many petitions for legalising raw milk, voting against NAIS amongst other things, but I don't feel we're really getting anywhere. Mainstream and corporate organisations will always have the advantage over fractionated small pockets of people who want change.

The point about Russia, (which incidently is no longer communist!) is the fact that a big enough movement happened in which started people getting back to the land and growing their own food on little plots of land. It was the 'dachnik' or 'gardener' movement. From there they actually devised a political party with one agenda - give us a piece of the motherland, at least one hectare, for us to use for lifetime use, for growing our own food. Anything we grow and sell on this piece of land is also to be tax free.

There were no side issues, they kept their focus narrow and to the point. There must have been all kinds of vegos/vegans/carnivores/christians/buddhists/atheists among the party, but they all agreed on the one thing and pressured the govt to put the bill through, through sheer numbers and constant pestering. It took a few years, but it did happen. After it was passed all kinds of eco communities came up, unemployment went down, the people are happier and healthier.

I almost feel the natural and alternative foodies are like a community of small tribal groups who are so busy bickering and needling each other over who has the best diet/spirituality etc, we've let ourselves be run over by the money hungry sociopaths, and now all are suffering, and struggling to keep in control of our own food and health. Kind of like the ancient Celts. So many different clans all fighting each other, and then getting their arses kicked, their cutlure all but destroyed by the English.

If we all had the same mentality as Robyn, but took it a step further, there's nothing we couldn't do.

You know something else I believe in, don't laugh... I buy almost everything second hand, if possible. I am the yard sale queen, the Craig's list junkie. I figure I pay zero taxx,( I have to make that a four letter word) I stimulate my local economy, and they don't report it as income. Just my tiny contribution, sorry off point. But, your right Karen, we must stick together and have a well defined, narrow and to the point focus of exactly what we want and then do it. I think the only way to beat the system is to drop out of the system. I try my best not to contribute to the success of the machine. Think "local" buy "local" sell "local" We have strength if we stick together, start with your neighbors and build your army.

Right on Robyn!

This is indeed one great way to disconnect yourself from 'the system'! In regards to stimulating the local economy, We will even pay more money if I need be to the local store to support the community. It starts in your own home, and grows. More and more people are understanding this. More and more people are learning ways to detach from the system.I say, it's a lot to be proud of, for sure.
If you are looking for others ways to 'drop out' of the system..email me..

You know Robyn, you call this your "tiny contribution" but that is all that we each have! And it can add up to something big! Local, local, local as much as possible, even if it means paying more. (as much as you can, anyway....I am currently unemployed but I still do this as much as my wallet will let me!)

Some good points made about wher and how we spend our money.... and Kevin beats on this one all the time...
I don't buy at any chain grocery either... I buy at a little local market that carries a lot of organic foods.. And it is a very rare ocassion that we eat out. When we do - it is at a little local place.. I would sooner pour hot tar down my throat than go thru a fast food place..

And Robyn I am not laughing... I buy at the Good will too.. Not because I can't afford to go elsewhere but simply because I can find very nice clothes there for a lot less and its a lot less hassel as well.. My hubby loves it.. He says, Give Linda $50. bucks twice a year and send her to good will... She comes home with a whole new wardrobe... LOL...

And to take it further --- if we don't like things how they are with our government --- only we can change it... I do not vote for anyone in office.. I don't vote D or R... There is a cool website kickthemallout.com..... makes perfect sense..

Karen -- you need to start listening to the KT radio show... (smile)
