I think there should be a spirituality tab to add topics to. I'm interested in what religions or non-religions people here practice. It seems essential to health to be spiritually healthy, as well as physically and emotionlly. I'm kind of at a cross-roads in figuring out how to go about that. Please share (without arguments here) what you believe to be a fulfilling spiritual life.
Here are a few things that I've thought about occasionally.
All my life I've heard things like, "God is good, God is great"
and "God created man in his own image".
and "God is Love".
I've also heard things like, "God fearing", "The Wrath of God" etc. etc.
So I ask,
if God is good and great, why should we fear him?
if God created man in his own image and so many men are evil, can God be evil?
if in fact God can be evil, is that why good women cannot have children, and other women have abortions or even end up killing their own child? is that why we have wars? rapes? murders? abuse? etc. etc.
Questions, questions,,,,,what to do....what to do.....lol
Nyota,,,,here's a question for you.....Do you believe that we (as humans) are the only creatures in the universe that God created?
Bobby, I already answered most of these questions in a previous post. Are you even reading my replies? I am spending ALOT of my time replying on this thread, and it doesn't even seem like you are reading any of my replies.
God is good and great, because he is the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE. We should fear him; however, because after a person dies, God sends them either to heaven or hell. That is why we should fear him, in order to NOT be sent to HELL for all of eternity. People who lie, steal, cheat, kill, etc, get sent to HELL. That is why God instituted the 10 Commandments. The 10 commandments instruct people how to live, in addition to the rest of the Bible.
I answered your second question in a previous post. Men are evil because the devil is in control of the world until Jesus returns. Jesus defeated the devil (and sin) by dying on the cross, but the devil is still in control of the world. I already answered this question!!!
READ THE BIBLE, LEARN WHAT IT SAYS, AND UNDERSTAND IT. That is my suggestion to you!
All evil comes from Satan, the devil. All of it. Abortion, war, rapes, abuse, murders, etc. is all from the devil. Jesus defeated the devil (and sin) by dying on the cross, taking the burden of mankind's sin. The devil is still in control of the world until Jesus returns (The second coming of Christ). Jesus is going to return to Earth, and all Christians (believers), will vanish from the Earth. That is called the rapture. There are other events that are going to happen after that, called the tribulation period, etc. Nyota1
OK I am going to jump in on this and ask a couple of questions. ANY one can reply, however nyota1, ponder this. We are all part these three things. MIND BODY AND SPIRIT (soul essence) Agreed ? God is unconditional love, and Jesus became THE CHRIST we he realized that there was never any disconnection from the heavenly father. We decended into this density, the third, (3D) to play this game called life, and to experience and make known the unknown in order to assist the expansion of the universe ( GOD ). So it would it would be safe to say that you cannot measure darkness, except to say that there is an absence of light. Now my question, How do you function in the this thing we reality,as an individual without CREATING ? Do you make decisions about things that you are going to do, or not do each, and every moment ,of each and every day ? If the answer is YES the are you are a CREATOR which makes you a divine entity. In Christ's light and Gods love.
Regarding creation, I am referring to the creation of the Universe. GOD created the literal, physical Universe. He created the Earth, the Sun, human beings, and the rest of the Universe (the stars, the sky, and all of the other planets).
If you are a creator like you claim, does that mean that you can create something like the Sun, the Earth, Mercury, Mars, Venus, etc? NO, it doesn't. So, who created it?
GOD CREATED IT. THAT MEANS HE IS SEPARATE FROM HUMAN BEINGS. HE EXISTED FIRST, NOTHING EXISTED. THEN GOD CREATED EVERYTHING. HE CREATED THE SKY, THE EARTH, THE SUN, HUMAN BEINGS, THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, EVERYTHING.
GOD is SEPARATE from human beings because HE IS THE CREATOR.
If I create in my mind does it not exist ? For you see when you think, you think in pictures, and when you have a thought it either passes or you connect an emotion to it be it positive or negative, from there it receives a feeling. How ever much you want to you cannot change the past and only plan for the future. The only power you have, is in this moment , and if you utter the words " they made me mad " then you have given away your power to another . Which is more real your dream at night or the dream during the day.
I had a thought today: What if goodness and evil is physiological, not just psychological or conscious choice? We all have hormones, neurotransmitters, nerves... that make us feel a certain way. Take PMS or post-partum depression for example. When a woman's hormones are imbalanced she feels absolutely horrible, some even feel awful enough to kill themselves and/or others. We've heard countless stories of moms who drive off the cliff with their kids or do horrible unthinkable things. I seriously doubt they chose to do those things consciously, but were in an abnormal state of mind. What if some people are born with defective areas of their brain that control self-control, compassion, love for mankind that most of us are born with? What about those born to uncaring or abusive parents that have damaged their child's physche for life? I think even homosexuality in some cases is due to inborn unbalanced hormones that govern attraction to the opposite sex.
What I'm getting at is, I think God originally created us all to be prefect, to be loving, caring, generous, pure - the true human nature. We as humans have screwed it all up. Because we became greedy, polluted our air, food, and water, we caused all these diseases and imbalances, thus causing all the inappropriate behavior we term as "evil". I'm not so sure we can/should blame it on a being, like the devil. To say the devil is in control of the world right now but God is coming back I think just gives people a way to be able to sleep at night. Maybe what we should be doing is helping fix the miswired brains of the "evil" people. I'm sure there are scientific experiments that show their brains are functioning differently than "good" people. Maybe we're all to busy passing judgements and sending them to hell that we don't see they are sick.
I may be just rambling here, but I do wonder if people who do bad things really do choose to be that way. It seems we have made it this good vs evil world and religion tells us when the end comes the bad will all be sent to hell and the good to heaven.
Maybe healing the world starts with proper diet and exercise. Healthy people think better, feel better, make better decisions; they are nicer and calmer and more loving... If only it were this easy, huh? I guess we can only start with ourselves!

Thank you fot the topic. I had a discussion today w/a friend on the same thing. I do believe such a topic can be easily confused, at least for me. He asked me "What do you think spirituality is and how do I learn to become more spiritual?"
I don't think I can "learn" to be more spiritual. I think when rational mind meets spiritual self the two can cause an inner turbulence that is rather disturbing. I do believe in "learning" religion- along w/many other vehicles intended to unify us rather than tear us apart (as a people). Many other "learned" things - prayer, meditation, yoga, natural lifestyle, etc- can bring a greater peace of mind to myself but again....mind, self and spiritualty don't mix well for me.
Anyway, I replied, "I feel the most spiritual when I feel myself the least, and the best way for me to achieve this is to focus on myself less and my fellow human beings more. This is best achieved through acts of good will and kindness, to become selfless instead of selfish"
I agree w/some things posted here (especially going "toward the light") but mainly I have noticed that most who share comment in an nonoffensive manner and respect each other. This lets me know that I'm in the right place.
Thanks Naturenut... and it does start w/ourselves
