I have a teen that has real trouble with ADHD, and would like to find alternatives that will help rid this scenario so the kid has a happy life, naturally.

Totally organic diet, preferably raw foods. Absolutely not splenda, nutrasweet, equal, etc.(no aspartame). Get him on a good omega 3 supplement such as flax oil(organic of course) or cod liver oil. Good brands are mentioned in KT's "More Natural Cures Revealed" book.

Esdsix:

The first thing we have to realize that 20 years ago, ADD or ADHD didn't even exist. What existed before was "BEING A KID."

Remember that? The class clown? Doodling in your notebooks? Bored with a teacher when you'd rather play with your friends? Couldn't understand a lesson? Forgetting to do chores? Being pissed off at your parents for taking away your TV priviledges? Fighting with your siblings? Not wanting to do your homework?

Now all of a sudden, "being a kid" has been reduced to the label "ADD" or "ADHD", which of course is a farce... and a popular one because apparently 20% of our children are being treated chemically for it.

Brian Smith is very right in that proper nutrition plays a big role, although he didn't mention "GET OFF THE SUGAR!!!!!!!", a very big item with children. Let's face it: kids aren't into Splenda or Nutrasweet, they're into Rock Candy, Coke and Dolly Madison cupcakes. Oh. And let's not forget to throw in the occasional Happy Meal. The bottom line is that children are grossly malnurished.

Vaccinations are without a doubt a contributing factor, and a controversial topic in the health community. They are toxic and have been suspected to create psychological changes in children. A whole range of health topics dealing with toxicity apply to children as well, yet vaccinations are the one factor most adults don't have to deal with as recipients, other than the occasional flu shot, if that.

Dr. Mary Ann Block runs a clinic (in Texas, I believe) and is a popular author in dealing with natural ADHD recovery. Her book "No More ADHD" can be found at Amazon.com. I would highly recommend you pick up a copy, read it, and apply it to your teen's lifestyle.

Good luck!

Getting rid of this condition is a simple as stop what is causing it. Non organic poisonous meats, milks, sugars, flours, veggies ect. Too much caffeine, too much Tv,not enough sunshine, notenough clean air, lack of oxygen. These are a few more areas to add to the list of things to look into.

Omega 3 and B vitamins are best because they are the main fuel source for the brain. Throwing out your television is a good idea as well. It might sound crazy at first, but the frequencies that televisions operate at are the same as the Hypothalamus gland in the brain. Watching television actually effects the operation of the Hypothalamus gland. The Hypothalamus gland regulates several hormones in the body, the lack of some of those will cause ADD and ADHD by throwing off other brain functions. I got rid of my television a few years ago, and by adding B vitamins and Omega 3 to my diet I can concentrate much better and my memory has improved as well.

I have a theory about what might cause ADHD based on my own experiences and information you'll see people posting.
Most of the time the information you'll come accross has to do with modifying the diet to exclude things that are toxic, processed etc. I was treated for ADHD in my childhood, and later on in life it was assumed I had bipolar. Recently I talked to someone who says they are a medical intuitive, able to see problems in the body via extrasensory perceptions.

She told me she saw that my vascular system is smaller than most people, so oxygen and toxins moving through the body wouldn't be processed as well. This got me to thinking, if my body is unable to process toxins and waste in general, wouldn't this contribute to the symptoms of having something like ADHD, especially when most people seem to suggest remedies which focus on preventing the body from becoming toxic?

Ginseng opens the blood vessels but gives me a headache. I don't want to do a regimen of aspirin because it might damage the stomach lining. So I've been drinking ginger tea, which aids in digestive processes in addition to opening the blood vessels and thinning the blood (or so I've read).

The intuitive told me there's no way for people to diagnose this sort of condition, and they thought at one time it might be my thyroid. I wonder now if attention deficit disorder can be largely attributed to people with an insufficient vascular system.
