My doctor said that I had Gurd and also 4 stomach ulcers, which the ulcers have healed. I'm staying away from tomatoe base products, dark coles, anything minty. I've checked in my area and haven't been able to find any alternative medicine group yet. I will have to check with my chiropractor to see if he has any ideas on my heartburn. I did find where they said that sipping a glass of water with a teaspoon of baking soda in it helps and apples so I'm going to give that a try.

Duane, has your doctor ruled out gallbladder problems? Also kidney disease can cause heartburn. Do you have a hiatal hernia? In fact, according to my chiropractor, there are numerous causes of heartburn. You need to find an alternative medicine group & see a doctor who will not throw something at you (like Protonix--I too stopped taking that drug) to merely stop the pain. The important thing is to ask "what is causing the pain?" Regular medical doctors will all say "too much acid". As you know from reading Kevin's book, this is NOT the case! My chiropractor has given me more help with heartburn, acid reflux & hiatal hernia in 1 year than my family doctor has in 3 years. Another really good book to read is "No More Heartburn--Stop the Pain in 30 Days--Naturally" by Sherry A. Rogers. I think you're in somewhat the same boat I am & that is trying to get the discipline to go on a really strict diet until your esophagus has a chance to heal. But you're one step ahead of me--I haven't done the body cleanse yet!

I suffer from acid reflux, my doctor put me on protonix, then after reading Kevin's books I decided to go the natural way. I first did a body cleanse, then started taking digestive enzymes, acidophilus, and apple cider vingear all seemed to work well for about a month. Now I'm having heart burn it seems with anything I eat and I try to eat as healhty as I can, I avoid all fast food places so I looking for anyone that has had luck with some other natural cures.

Hi Nancy, I too have had acid reflux (although Kevin T. says there is no such thing :-) I've been trying to follow all the suggestions in his book, but I admit, have not yet gone on a cleanse & in my area, it's very difficult to find good organic fruits & vegetables. In another month or so, the Farmers Markets will start up & there will be more choices, but O my how I miss CA (moved 3 years ago) & all the wonderful stores like Trader Joe's, Whole Foods Markets, etc. Anyway, I'm 60 & my heartburn/GERD started about 2 years ago and has been getting progressively worse. At that time, my doctor had me go have an endoscopy. They removed some polyps & he told me to take Prilosec. I did this for about 2 weeks & stopped because I read everything I can about natural healing & try to stay away from OTC & prescription meds. I had episodes now & then of extreme pain when swallowing. A few months ago my chiropractor told me that I had a hiatal hernia. He told me to read "Folk Medicine" by Jarvis--good book! I began taking apple cider vinegar every day. It was helping, but not enough. About 3 weeks ago, I started having chest pains off and on & having to elevate my head at night. I knew that I needed to drastically change my eating habits & do a cleanse. After 3 days of almost continuous pain, my husband insisted I go to the doctor. So now I have been on Protonix for the last week. I told the doctor that I wanted to heal my problems naturally & he just smiled & said that if I didn't let my inflamed esophagus heal, it could lead to serious problems like Barrett's or cancer. I too am praying for the Lord to heal me & to give me the discipline to stay away from the stuff I know I have to give up for now. The hardest is coffee!! I love coffee, also spicy foods, citrus fruits & dairy products. I just ordered a sample of Seven+ after reading comments about it on this website. I also starting taking probiotics. I am looking for a natural treatment for acid reflux/heart burn - what ever they call it these days. I have it bad...it burns right to my throat and I have to use several pillows to elevate my head. I took medication for years for it...and stopped. Apple cider vinegar worked - but now it burns my throat and stomach sometimes..but still taking it. Any other suggestions. I do take "Digest" enzymes. nothing is helping at this point. I did not sleep a wink last night...today I have been in prayer for God to help me get rid of this again.
