Sam, try to include flaxseed oil to your diet. Organic of course. This will help the brain neurotransmitters function better. Also, calcium mag supplement to calm you down in the evening. Also, drink sleepy time tea in evening. Valerian Root calms down the nerves or thoughts in your mind.

Thanks, Lori. I have been on prednisone for poison ivy and I think that has hampered my sleep.
I am now off so I look forward to sleeping tonight.
I am already taking flaxseeds, calcium and magnesium in a multi-vitamin. I tried valerian root before but it did not help much. I also take EFA's as well (essential fatty acids - ALA, DHA, and EPA).
I don't care for hot tea but I love iced tea - I just started drinking iced green tea.
I hope to be drug free within 2 years. I've been on around 20 differeent meds in the last 11 years. My bipolar diagnosis was 2 years ago - before that it was major depression and OCD.
I read this book called Natural Cures "They Dont Want You To Know About by Kevin Trudeau. It is a New York times best seller. It has Natural cures for insomnia, depression, the common cold, Lupus, pain, and there are so many more. You should read it because it talks about how eating oraganic foods and doing things to help your diet plays a huge part in mood and sleep problems. As far as insomnia you can take magnesium and calcium supplementation. You can eliminate prescription, and non prescription drugs. ALso another natural cure is virgin cocoanut oil. This book is so amazing because it showed me there are other ways to eliminate some of the symptoms of Bipolar Disorder without the use of prescription drugs which dont elminate the cause of the problem and put toxins into your body. I hope this helps. Have a good one. Peace.
