I color my hair but use something from a beauty supply store that is a demi color. It works great and leaves the shine in your hair. I would also like to know about alternatives.
Hello ! I use Henna all the time and it has become my ONLY source of hair coloring since June of 2007.
I have been dying my hair since about 1995, I think, and just last year I noticed that my hair was getting thinner (I've had thick hair all my life, so this was devastating to me !!), always having tons of hair in the drain catcher every evening after taking a shower. I was also getting "growths" on my scalp and around my hairline......kinda like warts or moles......and since I got into the natural stuff because of KT's books, I started looking around to see if I could find any organic things for my hair.
I started out with organic shampoo/conditioner, hairspray, gel, etc. and since I was still using my local hair salon to cut and dye my hair, it wasn't helping. My hair felt so dry.....even my husband mentioned how dry my hair felt....like straw.....another traumatizing realization along w/all the hair in the drain !
So that prompted me to start looking for organic hair dyes (I really wasn't expecting to find anything, because if you stop and think about it....dying your hair isn't really considered "natural", right ?) and lo & behold I found www.morroccomethod.com ! I was sold the minute I read all the info on that site and have been using all Anthony Morrocco's products ever since ! It's a little more pricey inititally (what organic product isn't, right ?), but I'm telling you.....I spend less now than I did when I was getting my hair cut and dyed every 4 or 5 wks. !!
I have oily hair and was washing my hair every day for as long as I can remember, but I don't have to do that anymore, which saves shampoo/conditioner, making everything last months before I have to reorder !
The Henna.....it's unlike anything you've ever tried before. It takes longer to put in your hair and rinse out because it's made exclusively of real plant fibers and botanicals (you'll read about it on Anthony Morrocco's site), but it lasts for up to 3 months !! So again, saving money !!
And an extra bonus to using Henna is it actually conditions your hair, making it shiny and soft (silky-feeling, if you will) while it's coloring, unlike the dye you get in the stores or salon that bleaches or just makes your hair downright brittle !
I'm tellin' ya.....I recommend these products to anyone who'll listen, LOL ! I LOVE my hair now and so does my husband ! It's actually growing longer and looks so much more natural than it did using chemicals. I'm so happy with it :o))
Anyway, I hope you consider trying those products. I know you'll be pleased with your purchase & will start recommending it to everyone, too ;o)
Hope my ramblings helped ya !
Blessings,
Tami
PS: just so you know, I'm not affiliated with morroccomethod.com or making money off telling ppl. about it. I truly love the products and what they do for my hair ! BTW, they have a forum on there, too, where you can ask all kinds of questions and get helpful advice about any of the stuff Anthony sells, while meeting LOTS of nice ppl. that have been using his products for a long time. New people are joining all the time, too, so you don't even have to buy anything if you don't want to. You can register on the forum and ask questions about everything beforehand, if you like :o))
Good luck !
Thanks for the info......didn't think we were ever going to get a response. I currently use a demi product that is not a permanent hair dye on my hair however it is NOT organic or healthy for me. I heard that you can't use Henna over colored hair?? What do you know about this?
Yes, you can use Henna over already colored hair. When I first found Morrocco Method, I joined the forum there and asked a TON of questions before ordering, I read everything on the site, too, about the products themselves.
I had/have previously dyed hair when I started using the Henna and it actually makes your hair not feel like "straw" anymore ! It conditions as it colors.
There's a color chart on the MM site so you can pick what color you want. Just go to the Henna page and scroll down where it tells you how to use it and the ingredients and start clicking on the tabs for more info.
On the color chart, whatever color your hair is now (dyed) that's the color you'll want to look under. The color of my dyed hair before using the Henna was "Red Ginger" but just a tad lighter, but I knew the lighter my hair was the more my dark roots would show, plus I'm starting to get gray as well (UGH !).......so I just decided to go back to my normal hair color which is medium brown w/hints of red/mahogany when the sun hits it. I got the Medium Brown Henna and Sherry Henna & mixed them and I have my color :o)) Right now I need to do my hairline because I see some gray showing ! (YIKES !)
It takes some experimenting to find the right color, but I strongly suggest you join that forum, if you're going to order from Anthony Morrocco's site, and ask questions, or go through the questions that have already been asked, to find out exactly what color you would like your hair to be after using the Henna. Anthony is a big help, but there are so many other guys & gals on there that have been using his stuff for a long time and might be able to help you out as well.
when I decide to order I'll let you know how it turns out. I like to mix colors to...it seems to make the colors look more vibrant. I appreciate all your input!!! I will also join the forum when I get a chance.......life is busy!!!!
