The principles of the diet are important and probally the most important to the success of the diet along with consuming the probiotic foods and drinks to rebuild the immunity and body ecology. Although it may seem confusing at first to start using these principles after a little practice it gets easier and easier. I thought it would be good to discuss these together and ask and answer some questions regarding them. Ask away and don't be afraid to share what your struggles have been with them. Has anyone mastered them yet? I know I haven't but it's getting close!

I have the most trouble with the 80/20 principle. I am a meat eater and have difficulty limiting it to only 20% -- but I'm working on it. Question -- can we have vanilla extract at the beginning? I eliminated it from the quinoa breakfast recipe because I wasn't sure - alcohol content? Any thoughts??
See if you can find the frontier brand of flavorings that are alcohol free and they use glycerin to preserve instead of alcohol. If you feel you can tolerate them....then yes they are ok to use in the beginning. Just watch for any reactions, etc.
I too have issues with the 80/20 rule and am getting better at it....also food combining! I have a hard time remembering what ot eat with what. I know it's very important though and I need to go back and reread that chapter.

yes, found them yesterday. Think I like the cereal without the flavoring tho. So, how did your breakfast turn out? Or did you manage to find the quinoa flakes?
Also--does anyone know of other BED forums online? There's so many questions that come up in the course of this diet and I find that Donna Gate's website is incomplete.
For example one article will say "you can use this in the pancakes" but nowhere on the site will it have a recipe for BED pancakes. Certain things I can and can't have are the most difficult to research. I have a coach but it costs money to ask him all these quesitions. Thanks!
