Hi, my name is Nora and I am interested in starting the Body Ecology diet. My main concern is sugar addiction, and I feel that I need a formal regimen for breaking the addiction. But starting seems overwhelming in and of itself. Especially as I am a grad student and very busy. Could anyone share with me what their process was for beginning - how far ahead of time did you plan to start, what steps did you take to get ready, how did you negotiate what to eat with your family, etc. Thanks, N

ND,

I planned about two months in advance! I would first get the book and read it twice....plan on how you will plan your meals, etc. Get familiar with the new foods, where to find them , and how to prepare them. It really does get easier and easier. I would first start phasing out ALL processed sugar first for a month, then the second month, phase out all fruit. I went two months with NO form of sugar or fruit whatsover. Prepare your body by going slowly into it! Make sure your bowels are in good working order and that you are eliminating daily. Im about done with phase one of the diet....and will be adding in more foods again soon. Good luck!

How do you know when it's okay to move to Phase 2 ?? She says in the book that it's when the lining of the intestinal wall is back to good health, but how do you know when that is without some sophisticated testing?

Hey Nora!

I just recentely started the diet, and yes...sugar was the hardest thing to overcome! I always crave something sweet after eating, so this was the hardest thing for me to overcome. Have you heard of Stevia? It's amazing! It's sweet like sugar, but has 0 calories and doesn't feed candida (if this is a concern of yours). You can purchase Stevia at health food stores or on the body ecology diet website, www.bodyecology.com. Also, there is another natural sweetner you can purchase on the website called Lakanto...which you can use for baking. It's a bit pricey, but probably worth it (haven't tried it yet.) Anyways, after I eat I always have a cup of tea sweetened with stevia and this has helped SO much. It also keeps me from overeating, which is a huge problem with people suffering from candida, since they never feel like their craving are satisfied. This diet takes a lot of dedication...but as long as you plan ahead and stick to the 80/20 rules you will do just fine. Remember to take baby steps, and work your way up the cleansing ladder. If you feel crummy at first, don't worry...that's actually a good sign because your body is detoxing and getting rid of toxins. You probably want to look into colon hydrotherapy...this will help clear out some of the old stuff. Trust me, you will feel loads better! HHmm...what other advice can I offer? Pretty much just check out the website and become as educated as you can, and the main thing is to listen to your body, do things at your own pace and find ways that work for you...everyone is different, what works for me, may not work for you...but I am here to help. Good luck!! It truly is worth it, this diet is life transforming!
