I was born in 1947, at what was a peak year of record births, my group was the one that had the largest graduating classes, the biggest of everything.
I love being a boomer, even an old one. Just hope the government gets straightened out so we who have supported two generations before us plus educated our children and helped with the grandchildren have some SS monies left. I cannot believe we have so many 'sellouts' to the 'establishment' amongst us!

Hi Elizabeth, Yes, I love being a member of the older generation too. You sure hit the nail on the head about Social Security. Yes there are a lot of sellouts. But I dont think its their fault alone. Its the fault of the government and the greedy politicians who want to get their hooks into the Social Security funds. When President Rosevelt set it up it wasnt supposed to be touched but all the interest it garners is too tempting for the greedy politicians to leave it alone. I guess Mr. Trudeau is right when he says, "its always all about the money". I think its sad that we paid into it, and not only educated our children and grandchildren and have if you think about it, our generation is responsible for all the wonderful gadgets we have today, cell phones, computers, ipods, etc that have made our lives easier and better and the ingrate sellouts want to begrudge us our social security benefits. I have one question to the sell outs, what are THEY going to do or invent to make their lives better? I get really tired of them telling us we've ruined the planet. What hogwash that is. Its the government that has ruined it by its greedyness for oil, and outsourcing all our factories and putting so many people out of work because its cheaper to go to China or other third world countries to manufacture things. Our generation didnt do that, they did. My husband still works, (he's in his 50's) and I've noticed his Social security benefits are going DOWN. Every year when he gets his yearly earnings statement from SS it goes DOWN! I dont think thats fair at all. If theyre gonna drop the benefits then they should drop the SS money they take from his paycheck too. I just wonder if he'll have anything coming from SS by the time he gets to retire or if he will be able to retire at all.
All in all though, its great to be a war baby and to be retired right now. I finally get to enjoy the things I want to do, gardening and raising my fruit tree orchard. I get up when I want to and dont have to "punch the time clock" anymore. Its the wonderful reward of not having to work, collecting social security and just enjoying the time I have left on this old world. I did my time, and I hope and pray that the younger generation will "wake up and smell the coffee" and be able to retire and enjoy their lives when they become older. Rock on!

If this is how you feel.. I sure hope you'll continue to FIGHT.... Have you checked out Con. Ron Paul? He is the ONLY presidential candiate who is actually even Mentioning the Constitution. Imangine that!! Just google him.. and come primary day.... VOTE.. If he doesn't get that (because of THEM) then WRITE him In on your Ballot in '08!!!!!!! I know I am!!

It's one last way to help save our future generations from this God awful facist regime that has taken over our government! (But you would expect this kind of talk from a younger 'hippie/boomer", yes? :):)

Hi Chertear, I havent checked out Ron Paul but I sure will . If his interests seem to be in line with what I think I would vote for such a man. But, I dont think an honest man will ever get elected when when our country is so far down the road to hell allready. I have this awful feeling that John Cain will be the next President and whether we voted for him or not, he'll be the one picked by the crooks in power with the new computer voting instead of the old fashioned paper ballots with the "hanging chads" and all that which can be so easily manipulated. I dont like the computer voting at all. I dont trust it at all. The "war machine" wont be stopped, there's too much money involved. Remember that old 1960's saying "War is good business, invest your son"? Its still true today with all the wars going on all over the world. Everytime we had a decent president, he was assinated, or attemted to be assinated. (Think JFK or Reagen). Its sad to say, but I'm glad I'm as old as I am, and wont live to see the next hundred or so years. I truely hope that people will wake up but like lemmings, we seem to be headed over the falls.

The Dream of getting an independent is slim, all depends what the DEMS do. It boils down to the lesser of two evils and if we get any independents with any kind of following ; the lesser of two evils and the waste your vote (as they say) independent.
McCain is too old I do not think the younger generations will be attracted to him, but the ones older than us might like him.
So far I like Kucinich, because he is independent minded and on the impeach Bush bandwagon, I confess I have not been watching the debates. Any one watching?

Okay.. first of all Ron Paul is NOT an independent, he is running as a Republican. Second, John McCain already ran out of money and, I belive is out of the running. Third, I am fully aware of how deep the rabbit hole goes and have been 'enlightened' to it for years, (unfortuately!) SO.. that is why I say Ron Paul is so important. Go to his website.. watch videos of his speechs and appearances. It is really kind of upsetting that more people don't know about him.. but then.. THAT'S what happens when your 'media' is government controlled. They KNOW if Ron Paul gets elected, it WON'T be business as usual.
Search Ron Paul on video.google. and you tube. He is stauchly Constitutional!! It's so refreshing. AND.. :):) he's a Texan.. A REAL texan, not like that schill texan in the white house. *shudder*
It is my plan WRITE IN Ron Paul when I vote for president. Even if "they" continue to try and shut him down/out by keeping him out of the press so that good people like YOU can't even hear about him.. But my advice to everyone in this country... You better get yer heads out.. and find some Alternative sources of NEWS!!:):) www.infowars.com is a good one. Scarey.. but after all these years.. accurate.

Cherterr,
I agree 1000% that WE AS A COUNTRY NEED TO STOP ELECTING THE STATUS QUO. In order to REALLY accomplish this a big grass roots movement has to EXPLODE on the scene and overcome the fixes and corruptions already in action. Yes the governemnt is Media controlled and the Media is Murdoch controlled. Knowing that electing who is GOOD for the PEOPLE is BAD for the "DECIDERS"!,
is a big mountain to climb in so short a time!
My head has been out for a long time now. Bill Maher had a great show on last Sunday just about this topic, there is a person who has some clout and shares our views. I suggest you send him an email at HBO. Seriously!

Ron Paul was on Bill's show a couple of times. Bill referreed to him as his "new hero", I believe. He has also made several appearances on The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart, and The Colbert Report.
