Terrie, I don't know anyone in that area, but I do know that everything looks completely different when standing in gravity and laying on a table like with the MRI. Gravity increases the pressure on the spine and unstable areas better seen.
Hi again, thanks for responding. I had an MRI of my back; it showed no impingement, and I had it evaluated by another neurosurgeon also. Both determined it was not coming from my back, for all that is worth.
I live near Louisville, Kentucky, but also close to Elizabethtown, Kentucky, if you know of a chiropractor that may be able to evaluate my case even further.
Thanks again.
Dr. Justin,
Was wondering if you would be willing to answer some questions for me.
I was born with bilateral hip dysplasia. I had a hip replacement Feb. of 05.
I woke up in absolute, extreme pain after the surgery. The surgeon damaged my sciatic nerve, and I live in pain 24-7. I use to have drop foot really bad, but that has improved somewhat. I cannot abduct my leg far enough to sit a saddle. Up until the surgery I was an accomplished equestrian.
My guess is that my nerve damage is due to wrong placement of the retractors, or is due to when he grated out the bone in my hip socket too far to fit and place the implant into it.
I had another doctor look at my x-rays and he said it was in 'protrusio", meaning the implant had been inserted way too far into my pelvis, and that the femoral neck was too short and that is why I cannot abduct my leg normally. He says it needs to come out and be replaced again; but I am terrified and fear that the pain of the sciatic nerve could be compounded at an even greater pain level somehow. He also told me he thought he could relieve some tension on the sciatic nerve by putting in a longer femoral neck. I know this is not your field, but I am clueless and feel "lost" most of the time about what I should do. But do you think the pain will ever go away? Sometimes I think I will lose my mind so I just take one day at a time. But I have made it this far and expect to make it some more.
Thanks for an opinion if you reply.
Thank you, I kind of wanted that second opinion to really know for sure, I have an appointment this a.m. and will find out more then, thanks for the info.
Just a quick question, I have had to go to a chiro. over the last week & 1/2 due to my back, once I am better should I make this a monthly visit just to keep everything in line. Your oppinion is appreciated.
