DGL is deglycerrhized licorice. What can help as a temporary fix is powdered slippery elm - mix with water and take before bed. Most often the problem of reflux is not due to too much acid as is believe by conventional docs, but really an issue with too little acid. Acid is needed to close the esophogeal sphincter, and when there isn't enough it stays open and the stomach fluids move up and cause heart burn. Also, I can assure you, weight loss would help you tremendously with the heartburn and your overall health. My best.

Richard,
It is important to addres what may be causing this problem. First place to look is your diet. Are there certain foods causing the reflux? For initial relief you can try slippery elm powder, or chewable DGL. There is much more that can help but this requires more of an indepth understanding of you and your specific health concern,
