And then it hit me...

I've always been a very strong believer that things don't happen just to happen...there's always a reason to why things happen, and as painful as something might be to go through while it occurs, I've always felt that something better would always be a little further down the road. I think I've found my something better. For years, I've toyed with the idea of going to naturopathic medicine school, but at the time, we were living over 60 miles one way to get to the school, so I let the idea go.… Continue

The "Bad Parent" Brainwashing

Shannon and I took Nathaniel in for his 18 month well child visit today, with much trepidation. After everything I've read in Kevin's book, as well as here on this site and on many others, and things that Shannon has heard talking with other parents and fellow Doulas and Midwives, we were very torn about what to do. We already had the appointment, though, so we figured we would take him and if nothing else say goodbye to our doctor (he's kinda like family...) Let me preface this by saying that… Continue

We're becoming a convectional family

Distraught at myself for still depending on the microwave too much, I went out the other day and finally got the toaster/convection/rotisserie oven I've been ogling for while. It fits right at home with the other appliances on the counter with its shiny stainless steel exterior and big "watch me cook!" glass door on the front. A piece of beauty. And man, are we putting it to use! The last 4 or 5 meals have been cooked in there, and we keep coming up with ideas for more. Casseroles, baked potato… Continue

VCO and ACV, Oh My!

I've been wanting to try coconut oil since I read about it in Kevin's book, but was a little put off at the price at first. I've been watching the local ads, and finally yesterday we saw that our nearby Sprouts had it on sale. Shannon wasn't too sure about whether or not she was going to give it a go...the look of it kinda scared her...but after telling her about all the benefits I've discovered that it can bring for both your health and weight control, she decided to give it her best shot. We r… Continue

Microwave withdrawls

I went to school. I have a relatively solid background in physical sciences. And I totally believe and know that everything around us has electromagnetic energy. So yes, it makes total sense to me that the microwave oven completely messes with the energy and changes it in ways we can't necessarily comprehend with our garden variety kitchen utensils. So Shannon and I have decided to try to slowly phase out our microwave. Granted, I'm not getting rid of it, as sometimes we just don't have other op… Continue

Who knew taking a shower could be so great?

Ok, so reading through the Natural Cures book, one of the things that Shannon and I wanted to implement right away was to get a shower filter onto our shower. Living in AZ, the water here is always hard, so we have a water softener hooked up to the house, but even with the softened water we noticed that we were always itchy and dry skinned as soon as we stepped out of the shower. After reading the section about the chlorine and chloramides in the water supply, this made perfect sense. We were al… Continue
