Alright, so for the past couple of months my hair has been falling out like crazy, and is really starting to feel thinner. I have been baffled by this because I have been eating better and living a much healthier lifestyle than I ever have in my life. I looked up "hair loss" on Dr. Mercola's website and News Target. I read that hair loss can be a result of a vitamin deficiency, stress, recent weight loss, or more. Well, I wouldn't think it would be a vitamin deficiency because I eat a lot more organic raw fruits and veggies than I ever have in my life as well as take a whole-food supplement, and I have never had a problem like this until these past couple of months. I am thinking maybe it is a results of my recent weight loss or even more, the stress and frustration I feel at work daily. I decided to take action. I read on News Target that you can use herbal supplements to treat hair loss. Here is the article.
  • Herbal hair loss treatments have been proven effective for decades and in some cases even centuries.
  • They cause no side effects, cost less than any other hair loss treatment and bring good results in preventing hair loss, stopping hair loss and regrowing hair.
  • 1. Rosmary (Rosmarinus in Latin) -- known for stimulating hair growth and for enhancing dark hair.
  • 2. Dong Quai -- A Traditional Chinese herb that contains phytoestrogens that reduces the formation of DHT.
  • Hence, Dong Quai is beleieved to stop hair loss and even regrow hair.
  • 3. Saw Palmetto -- A small creeping palm - Also known as Serenoa repens.
  • It contains free fatty acids and phytosterols, which block the formation of DHT and by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase that contributes to androgenetic alopecia.
  • 4. Aloe Vera - Taken from the inner leaves of plants, it is a substance in a gel formation that is known for its ability to calm irritated skin.
  • It protects the scalp and hair and also known as a good remedy against Alopecia.
  • 5. Capsicum -- A type of hot peppers which stimulates hair growth by at least half and increases blood flow to the scalp.
  • 6. Lemongrass -- A pale green stalk about 18 inches long.
  • This herb stables oil product in the scalp.
  • It also increases fullness and body to the hair.
  • If you suffer from hair loss or thinning hair or just want to keep your hair healthy and strong, it is recommended to use herbal hair loss treatments.

I went to vitacost.com and ordered everything except for the rosemary, lemongrass, and aloe vera, in supplemental form. I also ordered Spirulina, which is high in iron and zinc. Iron and Zinc deficiencies are also tied to hair loss. For my stress and frustration I exercise, which helps. I do Turbo Jam, lift weights, and yoga, all of which really calm me down. Starting tonight I am going to take these supplements. This is going to be a major experiment for me. I really hope this works and proves that a person can treat and cure a sympton using natural methods. (Okay, update...I just received some organic freeze-dried rosemary that I will be taking now as well.)

Hi Sarah,

So how are you and are you still taking the herds for the hair loss and how is that going?
Sarah Comment by Sarah on May 19, 2008 at 7:15pm
Yes, I was taking all in pill form. So I had one pill for rosemary, one for don quai, etc. I actually took more than one a day. I just followed the directions on the back of the bottle. It might work if you just tried one thing...I just really wanted to hit it hard.

Hi Sarah, I'm kind of confused...where you taking all those things you listed above, in pill form? or where they all in 1 pill? hmmm, I'm wondering if i took only one of those if it would work?

Just an update on this experiment. It has been about a month and a half and I have seen a considerable decrease in my hair loss. It seems to be working!

I will...it will be a while because I have started the weight loss protocol again, so I will have to stop taking the supplements until I am done.

No I haven't . I didn't know of any around here until, well, this past Friday!!! After I am done w/ the protocol I will continue to take the supplements, and if that doesn't help I will make an appointment with him. You are right though, a professional opinion would be great. Maybe he could figure out what the root of the problem is.

have you been to a naturopathist? sometimes it's good to have a professional opinion

Thanks for the comment KnowNow. You know what I would really like to do is figure out the root of the problem, instead of taking supplements to suppress it. something has to be going on differently in my body because I have never in my life had a problem with hair loss until this past month or so.
