In case there happens to be someone out there who does not know. I drive an 18 wheel semi. I would be interested to know what others do? What kinds of walks of life.
My husband and I own a construction business. 12 years now. Very stressful but has allowed me to be with my kids at home up until 2 years ago when we purchased our first commercial property and moved into it. But it is only 5 min from home so not too bad and my kids are pretty much grown but are still home. ( they got it too good to leave ). No, 2 are in college and one in high school. I am also a real estate investor. Sound glamourous but not. Seems we are always chasing rent. We are in the process of developing 1 of our properties into a subdivision, Talk about S T R E SS. But should be a good move in the longrun. Other than that, I represent an organic online company and a glyconutrients company for fun and to help people get healthy, which is my most important passion.
Thanks for sharing Christine-your life sounds very exciting and interesting! As you mentioned, I'm sure it has it's more trying points as many people's do, to different degrees. Your pic's are wonderful...what do you do with your hubby's construction business? I've been helping my father in his (decorating/design/construction) since I was about 10 yrs old...just curious as to other facets that people do! His is a small business...not sure about yours? I always enjoy your posts and your input and knowledge...I know firsthand about SUBDIVISIONS...uh, especially in a "wayward" town (I'm putting this very loosely for internet's sake). OMG. Is it all so BACKHANDED and backwards? I'll leave it at that! Glad to see you are pursuing your happiness with health and helping others...I aspire to that. :-)
We are building a "Green" Subdivision, Will be the largest of its kind so far in the united states. We will keep every tree that we possible can. We are actually planning the streets around the trees. We have some beautiful 100 year old lazy oaks with moss that hangs and they are top priority to me. I cant stand it when they flatten every tree to build houses. We will be self contained. We will have a solar plant that will produce enough electric for all 30 homes and maybe enough to sell. The homes have been designed to not need much Air conditioning, with the placement of the windows, dormers that are effective and not just for looks. The exterior walls will be made of foam and the Architect says the temps will stay around the 70's in the summer without A/C All the materials will be environmentally freindly and HEALTHY. We will use as much recylcled products that we can find. Did you know they make counter tops out of soda bottles.... Pretty cool stuff, I am still learning though. "we have a builder and a architect that are leading the way. It is very exciting - this is my dream. We have a ways to go yet before we break ground and now the economy has slowed so we will probably hold off for a while but it is going to be great. Anyone want to move to florida and be my Neighbor?
That is so fabulous Christine!! It sounds like a lot of fun (and I'm sure a lot of work). I also HATE it when people just level a lot to build and don't leave so much as one tree. It's horrible. My father is selling his house and moving further North and going to be building a "green" earth home. There are so many green options and great things to incorporate it's fun to think we're helping the earth, and our bills in the long run! Best of luck!
interesting post, i often wondered the same ? about everyone. I currently am a Computer Network Engineer and work for a Computer Network Consulting Firm.We manage Business Computer Networks and also consult for them as well.Let me tell you how I got to that point.~ This is the short version, without celebrity name dropping...lol...
I joined a local machine shop straight out of high school making $5.50 hr eventually worked my way up and eventually became a high speed tool maker. after the 11th year of sucking toxic chemicals and fumes and coming home smelling like a radiator ~ I was DONE! I managed to get into a sales position for an Audio,Visual & Lighting company with somewhat of an interest and that is what eventually started my passion for computers. I absorbed myself into books, school, friends, (got my certifications and degrees) and anything that said computers, I had it or I was breathing it.Using the training that I recieved from that Audio Visual company and the computer experience I gained, I knew I had found my niche. I forged ahead and found a company close to L.A. that specialized in designing & setting of Concerts ,Tradeshows,High End private parties,Sporting Events,Premiere Events ~They were looking for someone who had computer experience and also had a background in the Audio,Video,Lighting field ~ I felt like Horseshack from "Welcome Back Kotter" ..oh oh oh oh, thats me! Most of you have read my short bio in the NC community and as you know I almost worked myself to death. I became the senior lead technician for this company~ If it had anything to do with computers I was there. Project Managing many gigs, many a night. I hated PMing for these hollywood celebs. The things that I heard and saw in this industry were downright shocking ~maybe one day I'll post some pictures of some parties we did, nah, maybe not.....anyways,I got burned out fast and I wanted out! I missed my family,I was commuting hundreds of miles a day, I was getting no sleep. I felt like junk. I eventually came across an ad for a network engineer literally 5 minutes away from home. My resume' read like something out of a movie,I was hired on the spot. that was 2 years ago. I now work M-F 8-5, come home for lunch everyday (eat my organic food), spend time with my family. Well, i guess thats it for now. thanks for the rant...
it was exciting at first but eventually saw the facade of it all. most were very strange, needy and unappreciative. They think the world revolves around them. They were all the same...primarily that was a reason i wanted to leave that particular aspect of my field. i dont ever want to be a part of that again...crazy as it sounds. It's really weird, but sooo many people are in that industry and they actually love it.I dont get it...oh well,i can say that ive sort of been there done that to my kids.
yeah, what the heck, I figured "hey, get a decent job save enough money and get 3000 acres and farm" now thats livin'...lol....i know it must be hard work, but man it sounds "SATISFY-IN!"..right Michelle? nice picture Ezmee!
Hi Denise,
I have a son who is an over the road driver. He is interested in doing the weight loss protocol but is having a difficult time managing a healthy diet on the road. If you have any helpful hints please forward.
So many of you have very interesting careers and lifestyles. Mine has been very diversified. While in school I worked as a Medical Assistant for an Internist. Having always wanted to be a flight attentant, thats exactly what I did after college. For several years I enjoyed the travel, until my husband ,who also worked for the airlines, wanted to move to Colorado to help his father in business. So I ended up in Colorado in the real estate business for about fifteen years. We owned and managed apartment houses and single family houses. During this period I got licensed to sell real estate and insurance. A divorce found me raising 3 young sons and looking for a new career. I started in retail management for a large department store chain. I was happy enough and was able to change positions and departments within the store. In February 1994 I was struck down with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. When I say struck , that's exactly what happened. One friday I was out with friends and the next friday I was in intensive care paralyzed. I was forced to take a 12 month medical LOA. When I went back 1 yr later I was still too weak to return to the management position I had been in because I couldn't stand or walk for long periods, so I stepped down and took a job in customer service where I had a stool to use as needed. 7 months after going back to work we went into liquidation and everyone was laid off. I went back to school and took accounting. Unable to find a job in accounting due to lack of experience, I finally landed a job as a shuttle driver for a large car dealer. Actually, it's not such a bad job and I spend alot of time out of doors and get to talk to some very interesting people.
Like so many of you, I also have an online business. Nutronix International is a company based on the concept, that if the human body has all of the essential building blocks of life, consisting of all of the essential vitamins and minerals it requires, then it can attain a state of wellness that goes beyond just being free of disease.
Wow Karen, you've been through a lot. I hope you're feeling better with GB? Your career is quite interesting. You seem very smart and certainly adaptable! :-)
RachelA,
I keep plugging away at getting better. There are alot of people here that are going thru or have been thru alot worse. Great big get well hugs to everyone.
Anythings possible. GBS usually attacks the mylin surrounding the peripheral nerves . Usual onset is following an infection of some sort. Sometimes they never find the probable cause, like in my case. Shortly before leaving the hospital my neurologist told me they had no idea why I came down with GBS, to continue taking an aspirin a day. LOL
