Weevils in flour

In Flotida where I live you can get what old people use to call weevils in your Flour and in cake mixs that are Factory sealed also in air tight canistars.I rember my Grandmother putting a Bay leaf in all of her flour .I tried it and it seems to work.I have not had to throw out any flour since.

That's good to know; I have bought flour with weevils in it myself. I just baked it or made pancakes with it and gave it to my dogs, lol.

Try this also,
Put your flour(any grain product) in the freezer for 30 days. Supposedly it kills all the eggs(larva) from nasty little critters, then place it in an air tight container. So far, has worked for me.

Great tip. I have used the bay leaf too. Also Arrowhead Mills organic flour is very good. They have figured out ways to kill the eggs and bugs - organically of course. But if a bug gets into your food. At least you know it's probably good for you! If the bugs won't touch the stuff, we should be worried! I know that white sugar will keep indefinitely and the bugs stay away from it! Maybe they know something we don't know!

Yea, they must have figured out a way to eliminate the bugs because I haven't seen any since I started buying organic flour. I'll have to keep in mind the use of a bay leaf or the freezer just in case I begin seeing them again.

I keep mine in my freezer and my Mom used the bay leaf.... both work, but I do recall a time where I didn't do either, and yes, there were nasty bugs in my flour! Eh!

That was because flour in the air is like dynamite a slight spark and boom. Also it shouldn't be normal after bleaching and filtering. Weevels are larvae.
