PLZ HELP MEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been suffering from dandruff for too long. Dry, red, itchy scalp. I took a trip to Europe a couple years ago and for the first time for as long as I remember I had a healthy scalp. The dry scalp returned when I returned to Canada. I've tried olive oil and vinegar. Vinegar is okay but my scalp gets dry after I wash it out. The specialist recommended a bunch of chemicals but I'd prefer the natural way. My face is now getting dry. PLEASE HELP MEEEE!!!!

I'm going to get sick if I stop taking probiotics?

Damon, I see a lot of posts here to try this supplement, or that supplement, or this oil, or that vinegar, etc. What I don't see is many questions (unless I just missed 'em) about what your diet currently consists of.

You may have a fungal infection and you may not. I really don't feel that throwing a bunch of supplements at the problem and seeing what sticks is the ideal solution. You may get lucky and stumble upon the right combination, or you may not. I find such a hit or miss approach to be a bit too haphazard.

Can you provide some detail as to what your diet currently consists of? Perhaps then we'll have a better idea of where deficiencies and/or toxicities may lie.

Right off the bat I can tell you that I don't recommend whey protein products.

I feel the same!!! Its not the best approach but I'm desperate for change!

I wake up and eat peanut butter on whole wheat bread, then I usually have an apple and baby spinach and green tea for a snack. I used to eat alot of white rice and chicken (sometimes even twice a day) lunch and dinner. Now I switched to once a day and brown rice instead of white rice. I eat the white around twice a week but I'm trying to cut it out for good. I eat eggs on occasion with tomotoes. I dont drink milk and I take calcium pills and multi vitamins. I've been eating tuna with cellury twice a week also. I eat ALOT of chicken though! I rarely eat red meat. I started taking a table spoon of coconut oil today. I also started taking omega 3 (epa 400-dha200) supplements and vitamin b complex this week. I eat beans (especially lentills) . All types of fruits and veggies. cucumbers, cellury, brocolli, carrots, berries (all kinds) oranges... I used to smoke alot of weed and drink every weekend. I was eating take out food alot then. I havent smoked or drank in 6 months and I go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I never eat out anymore. I dont eat chips, chocolate bars or anything!!! I dont understand though. I'm pretty healthy. But this scalp and face issue has been haunting me!!! This is a detailed response. I never drink sodas. ONLY water and alot of it. Thank you in advance

Damon, you've made some good, healthy choices. Congrats! Good for you kicking the alcohol and smoking. Those can be tough addictions to break. Exercise is good too. You're definitely on the right path!

How long are your workouts typically? What do they entail?

How much do you sleep at night?

How do you feel about stress in your life?

Are you currently or have you been on any prescription/OTC meds?

Where do the whey protein shakes come into play?

What kind of water are you drinking?

Do you have a shower filter?

I'm not a fan of calcium supplements. Your body can't use them. Waste of money. Dark, leafy green vegetables provide more than enough calcium, as well as the necessary complementary minerals to ensure proper and complete absorption.

What brand is your multi?

Is the tuna out of a can? If so, packed in water or oil? I'm not a big fan of tuna, but you could do worse.

Is/are your chicken/eggs organic? Are any of your foods organic?

Peanuts are a useless food. I don't recommend them. I'd suggest raw almond butter.

Anything with wheat also contains gluten, which can be an allergen for a lot of folks. Plus it gums up your intestines making digestion & nutrient absorption difficult, if not impossible. If you must eat bread, try to find a gluten-free, non-wheat variety made from sprouted grains. I don't recommend grains, but I understand why we eat them and appreciate that giving them up is not for everyone (at least emotionally).

You can really never eat too many fruits & vegetables, provided their organic and raw. Cooking anything (meats, grains, veggies, etc.) destroys the majority of the nutritional value and creates carcinogenic toxins.

If you can do without the rice, I'd suggest broccoli & cauliflower with your chicken.

I'll admit that when I hear/see dandruff the first thing that usually comes to my mind is fungus, specifically candida. Endocrine imbalance can also play a role in skin conditions. As KnowNow indicated, iodine for the thyroid can be helpful, however I don't recommend any other form than kelp.

I do recommend coconut oil (actually I recommend raw organic young coconuts, but those are difficult to find), and I recommend ACV, although I wouldn't mix it with honey, especially if you are suffering from a fungal issue. I also do not recommend fish oils. Stick with the coconut oil and perhaps some flax oil (although ground flax seed is better).

Get rid of the whey protein. It's a byproduct of the cheese industry, nothing more. Yes, it is a concentrated form of protein, but there are MUCH better sources if that's what you're looking for. I'd recommend eggs over whey. Nutiva also makes three organic hemp protein powders that I've tried. They taste good and the ingredients seem ok. The bottom line though is that we don't need nearly as much protein as we've been led to believe. Yes, an athletic person requires a little bit more than the average sedentary Joe, but nowhere near the massive amounts that the Supplement Industry would have us believe.

What Vitamin B complex are you taking? Again, I'm not a fan of supplements in general. I always prefer to get the nutrients I need straight from the source. However, I acknowledge that they can aid those people that either do not have access to quality whole foods, or are in a transitional phase of health.

Thank you Sith,

How long are your workouts typically? What do they entail?

I usually work out for 1 hour ( a different body part each day and some days just cardio - basketball) mostly strength training

How much do you sleep at night?

roughly 8-10 hours a night ( but im usually still tired when I wake up ) maybe its from too much sleep?

How do you feel about stress in your life?

I try to remain positive but its hard at times - I have it better then alot of people so I try to remember that.

Are you currently or have you been on any prescription/OTC meds?

No medications

Where do the whey protein shakes come into play?

I was taking them 2 times a day - one before work out and one after. But I've run out and I havent purchased any for about 1 week.

What kind of water are you drinking?

Tap water through a britta filter.

Do you have a shower filter?

I do not have a shower filter but I'm purchasing one today.

What brand is your multi?

Centrum - high potency multi vitamin (complete from A to Z)

Is the tuna out of a can? If so, packed in water or oil? I'm not a big fan of tuna, but you could do worse.

It is out of the can and in water. I usually fry it with olive oil ( just a bit ) I also sprinkle a bit of garlic powder

Is/are your chicken/eggs organic? Are any of your foods organic?

Nothing in my house is organic unfortunately

"iodine for the thyroid can be helpful, however I don't recommend any other form than kelp."

Thank you Sith,

You're more than welcome.

I usually work out for 1 hour ( a different body part each day and some days just cardio - basketball) mostly strength training

Sounds good.

roughly 8-10 hours a night ( but im usually still tired when I wake up ) maybe its from too much sleep?

Sleep is when the body recovers. I don't believe that a person can get too much sleep. If you're still tired after 10 hours of sleep, then that signifies that your body is still in need of recovery.

I try to remain positive but its hard at times - I have it better then alot of people so I try to remember that.

Reminaing positive is an excellent trait. Depression is a "disease" of deficiency, be it vitamin, mineral, EFA, etc. Stress can assume many forms, not necessarily just depression or negativity. Deep breathing exercises, yoga, meditations are all calming exercises.

No medications

GOOD FOR YOU!!!

I was taking them 2 times a day - one before work out and one after. But I've run out and I havent purchased any for about 1 week.

Whey is an unnatural man made product with no health benefits whatsoever.

Tap water through a britta filter.

Brita is ok, but not the best. Plus, the refills are expensive over time. I'd recommend Aquasana. It's more expensive up front, but will save you A LOT of money in the long run, plus Aquasana filters more contaminants than either Brita or Pur.

I do not have a shower filter but I'm purchasing one today.

Excellent! What brand?

Centrum - high potency multi vitamin (complete from A to Z)

Hmmm...I'm not gonna pull any punches here. Centrum is CRAP. Synthetic...poisonous...CRAP... see www.centrumistoxic.com for the nasty lowdown on this mainstream "vitamin".

I'd recommend a whole food supplement, preferrably one that includes probiotics.

It is out of the can and in water. I usually fry it with olive oil ( just a bit ) I also sprinkle a bit of garlic powder

Try to heat it as little as possible. Try for organic olive oil and organic garlic powder (or better yet crush your own fresh organic garlic).

Nothing in my house is organic unfortunately

I think this is one are where you are really missing out on potential benefits. Strive to include as much organic foods in your diet as possible. I realize it is more expensive and less convenient, however the longterm health benefits are immeasurable.

does the iodine come in a capsul? what form is it?

You can certainly buy Kelp capsules, but I recommend either dried Kelp or Kelp powder, both of which are available organically.

Health Balance - balanced B-50 (timed release)

I'm not familiar with "Health Balance". Is that the brand name? My concern here is that they are synthetic vitamins which are difficult if not impossible for the body to assimilate.

I will stop taking the protein shakes

I think that's best.

I'd also recommend looking into a colon cleanse, either via an over the counter product or by visiting a colon hydrotherapist. Stick with the ACV and the coconut oil. Increase your raw fruit and veggie intake as much as possible. And remember, ORGANIC...ORGANIC...ORGANIC...

I will definitely change my water filter to aquasana.

Which shower filter do you recommend? I didnt have time to go grab one today.

I will stop taking supplements! I cant believe our governments allow us to purchase poisen. I will stop taking Centrum. What do you think of Omega 3 supplements? They are also Health Balance!

What do you mean by whole food supplement? with probiotics? Are they whats suppose to replace vitamins for me?

I will start buying more organic food. just a bit pricey.... but life is priceless.

I had an anal fissure 6 months ago which made me change my life style. It was the worst pain I had ever felt. It was because of a large hard stool that cut my insides. I started eating differently then because i needed to make my stool soft. I started eating brown bread because of the fiber. I quit my bad habbits. So I guess the fissure was a blessing in a painful disguise. My point being I cant eat grains because at times it still irritates me when I go to the bathroom. So should I just quit bread all together? what can substitute in for bread? Any info on fissures would be greatly appreciated as well. ( making those muscles strong... preventing it from coming back ) I know keeping the stool soft is key!

I've asked doctors questions in the past and they never ever have all agreed on something. I always get different answers EXCEPT when I told them about Iodine with KELP. They all laughed at me and said why are you trying to damage your body. Anyways nothing has worked. Thanks for trying...

I guess I have two questions for you at this point.

1). What rationale did the esteemed Medical Doctors give you for the alleged damage that kelp would do to your body?

2). Why do I get the feeling that you've adopted a self-defeatist attitude about this?

As near as I can tell, you only posted this thread a little less than two weeks ago. No natural regimen changes are going to produce the results that you are seeking in such a short amount of time. If you're looking for some sort of magical silver bullet type of cure, I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place. Conventional medicine may have brainwashed you into believing that a pill, potion, or lotion will solve your problem immediately, but unfortunately a natural, holistic approach will rarely, if ever produce such instantaneous results. Your dandruff could be the result of multiple imbalances within your body. Whatever approach you apply will take time. There's no miracle overnight cure. It's a process. There are no shortcuts.

If you do opt to try the oregano oil as Cayce suggested below, make sure that you are taking some form of probiotic supplement as well, as the oregano oil being a potent antibiotic will also indiscriminately kill the beneficial flora in your digestive tract.

Sith,

This was one of my worries too! I know that oregano oil is a poweful, natural antibiotic. It got rid of my bronchitis within three days! I was taking probitoics with it also along with eating cultured foods.
Thanks anyways guys

You can also put a few drops of oreagno oil in your shampoo or soap and it could help! Not sure! I would get on an antifungal program and take antifungals, cut out ALL sugar until you become stronger.
