I can relate to that !! I have a Collie and his eyes watered all the time. Some times it was worse than others. When I read Kevins book I decided to stop drinking the tap water and also figured I would just give my dog bottled water too and within a week his eyes stopped watering. I also stopped using chemial stuff to wash the floors--only use vinegar and water now---bought a good quality salmon oil to feed him and some probotics I found at the vet and he has stopped scratching and biteing at his skin and he does not have danruff any more either. Actually the probotics I found are better than the stuff I am taking !!! It is in a powder form and does not smell bad--wish I could find something that good !!
Glad to help----I always felt so bad for my dog and had no idea what to do for him. He has been living 3 1/3 years with this problem but it just got so much worse when I moved into town from the farm a little over a year ago. I also thought it could be from the new carpet but he seems to be fine now.I am not at home but if you want I could bring that other stuff with me on Monday and let you know just what it is--the probotics that is. The vet told me it was way better than the yogurt I have been feeding him. He also has these bouts of the trots for no reason that I can think of other than he eats grass and in the spring they really like to eat grass a lot so hope this stuff will help with his stomach problem.

My dog is a 8 year old chocolate lab he is over weight and we been walking him he eats grass to he is also very dry I would appreciate if you could get the name please Thanks again your so kind.
Chance is over weight too. He is a small Collie and the vet says he shouldn't weight more than 50 lbs--45 would be better and he weighs 60 lbs !! Last week when I found out he had put on 2 more lbs I stopped all treats !!!!! I am hoping to be able to take him on walks this year. Had knee surgery last spring and it just started getting better since Christmas. The year before I was recovering from another knee surgery from the year before that !! Needless to say----we can both use the walking !! I will get back to you on Monday about that stuff. My computer is broken so have to wait till Monday when I come back over here to my daughters.

that sounds great to me I'll pray you and your dog will get to a better health in the winter my dog gains and summer he loses because to much snow and cold where I live
Jan, your dog's immune system seems to be backed up. I would start by detoxifying his liver and then putting him on a really good supplementation program. Feel free to write me directly and I'll steer you in the right direction and product(s).
I agree with Dara, A healthy "kick-butt" immune system can make all the difference, (for us 2 legged beasts as well) I have a similar problem with my shepherd. His eyes are so full of gunk in the morning especially, and he licks a spot until it is raw. He has been on Prednisone forever and I am now desperate to find a way to get him off it (never has solved the problem fully). Being a bit slow off the mark, I am now looking to the obvious....immune system. Started both dogs on natural supplements 2 weeks ago, small amounts at first, and will gradually increase..Kelp... Brewers yeast...Milled flaxseed...Apple cider Vinegar...Himalayan Salt. (Not table salt). Already I can see a difference in the coat. So unbelievibly glossy. Anyway...these links may help.
Kelp also helps prevent the absorbtion of toxins I believe.
The beauty of these ingrediants also, is that they are VERY inexpensive and last a long time.
