Does apple pectin really help to reduce cholesterol levels?

I currently take lipitor for high cholesterol. I am aware of the side affects of this med and so far have suffered none of them. I've been taking it for several years and I'm 54 years old. I exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet etc and supplement with fish oil, whole food supplements, CQ10, and have for the past 25 years. Besides red yeast rice, I want to know if any of you have had positive results with apple pectin or any other suggestions. Thanks and appreciate your advice.

I went from 220 total when I checked 2 yrs ago to 189 when I checked last week. I lowered my cholesterol eating whole foods, more protein and fats, less carbs, especially refined ones. I'll check again in another year, but so far its working. Too many refined sugars was also keeping mine high. I'm proof along with many that eggs often, real butter, whole dairy and meat DO NOT raise cholesterol. If diet lacks sufficient cholesterol, your body will overproduce it to compensate. Sounds backwards and opposite of ADA guidelines, but true. This is one reason why many people can attest to the fact that even though they eat low-fat/low-cholesterol and exercise and all the right things, their cholesterol stays high.
A bowl of x cereal won't do it!

Interesting. I don't eat refined sugars, although I eat my own homeade oat bran muffins, lots of organic fruits and veggies, eggs, and fish. My cholesterol w/o lipitor is 265 and my LDL is 130. My HDL is 50 so I am interested in lowering it but not taking 20-30 supplement pills a day. Anyone have any ideas?
