I come from a long line of stresser-outers and bad tempers... and I was wondering if I could accumulate a list of what health problems this could potentially cause. I happen to be angry enough to poke someone's eyes out at the moment and I'm trying to chill out.

Hi Christa,

I won't give you a full list, but anger is one of the most destructive emotions that you can have. It causes the blood vessels to constrict, it effects the immune system for some three hours(even when the anger is considered justified), it affects the digestion, the adrenal glands, practically the entire body...In fact I believe negative emotions like fear, anger, resentment etc.,do more to harm and damage to the body than bad eating habits...hope this helps answer your question.

"He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city." Proverbs 16:32

lol no but you can believe it was directed at a man!!

it was this guy whom I've been avoiding for months because he tried so hard to get me to cheat on/leave my boyfriend(now fiance) for an entire year. But i figure after six months MAYBE he's grown up a little. So I finally respond to all his attempts to talk to me, and he starts up with the 'i want you, blah blah blah.' so I'm like you're not hitting on me again are you? and he says no I won't be a treat to your relationship anymore. i'll hit on you to make you feel warm inside if you want, but you have to ask. so I'm thinking wow, what a jackass, and say, no thanks, I've got a boyfriend for that. and he says oh i know, i just wanted to be able to turn you down. so I'm like yeah whatever have a nice life asshole.

then, yesterday, I'm getting ready for work. I come downstairs and he's sitting at my kitchen table! he mumbles that he came to pick my little brother up to come hang out, and then tries to HUG me.

rawr. i'm glad he's joining the Navy. maybe he'll get sent to Siberia.

I'M THE SHALLOW, THE SUPERFICIAL. I'M THE COMMON MAN. FAITHLESS, NARROW MINDED, INDIFFERENT, IMPASSIVE.
A SYCOPHANTIC LEECH. TANTAMOUNT TO DISINTEGRITY. I'M THE VULTURE FEEDING ON MALIGNANCY.

I'M THE SIN, THE LECHEROUS SNEERING AT PROSTRATION. I WALLOW IN DISEASE. I REJOICE AT DEGRADATION.
I YAWN AT MISERY. SPIT AT OTHERS HAPPINESS. AN ADVOCATE OF MANIPULATION. I EMBRACE THE SICKENING.

I'M THE LOST. I'M AVERAGE. I'M COMMON. I'M INFECTION. I'M HUMAN. I'M COMMON
A WORM THRIVING IN SEAS OF DISGUST. I'M COMMON. THE MOUTH LICKING WHAT YOU'VE BLED. I'M COMMON

I'M THE PAMPERED DEGENERATE. I INDULGE MY INCLINATIONS
THE ONLY WORDS TO MY ATTENTION ARE THOSE THAT I MY SELF CREATE
DISORDER. CHAOS.

I DEBAR ALL ORDER, REPUDIATE ALL PURITY. INFATUATED BY CONTENTMENT.
I LAUGH AT LIES. COME BEHOLD THE SICKNESS IN MY COMMON HUMAN EYES.

I'M THE GREED. THE CYNIC. I'M THE INDIFFERENT GAZE.
MENDACITY, BETRAYAL; THIS IS NOT A PHASE
EBULLIENT WITH HUMAN FILTH, HERE I AM. HERE I STAY.
FLOURISHING IN OUR DISGRACE. BLESSED BE THE HUMAN WAY

I'll assume whoever wrote that had some digestion problems later.

Like poorly managed stress, anger that is not handled in a healthy way can be not only uncomfortable, but even damaging to one’s health and personal life. Those who had less control over their anger tended to heal more slowly from wounds. Your health is also at risk; those who cope poorly with anger tend to have more negative outcomes when it comes to both mental and general health. Perfectionism can cause stress for you as well as those around you. Just a very few examples that can cause stress: Jobs, Relationships, Money, Parenting, Loneliness, Unexpected Stress. Have you had a situation lately that was stressful at first, but you just 'went with it' and ended up feeling stress relief instead? Finding ways to manage your stress level whether through meditation, exercise or hobbies you enjoy is important for a healthy life. Explore different stress reduction options until you find ones that works for you. Signs or symptoms of stress: Muscle tension, change in appetite, change in sex drive, dizziness, irritability, nervousness and lack of energy are just some of the consequences of stress. A little stress in your life is healthy. But being under constant daily stress is not. It can wear you down and make you vulnerable to health problems. Too much stress can affect your immune, digestive, nervous and cardiovascular systems. Stress not only makes us miserable, but it can make us sick, too. Despite the serious impact stress can have on your health, it’s not stress itself that can hurt you. It’s your body’s reaction to it that is harmful. If you can change the way you perceive a stressful situation, you might make stress less damaging to your body. Many people use meditation for stress reduction and relaxation. Anyone can practice meditation it’s easy and you can do it pretty much anywhere.

Absolutely true Melissa. You know how I know that. Because when I had liver disease (past tense) not only was I always tired, fatigue, sluggish, lack of energy. I remember I had a hot temper, short in patience. I was just angry all the time. But since I resolved my health issue back in 2004 what a huge difference. I'm back to happy and thinking positive thoughts. I came across an article back on the old site NaturalCures and posted it. It shows what each organ represents. If I find that article I will post it back up. You're absolutely correct "M" thanks for the reminder...Dawn

A diseased liver definitely can cause anger. But anger over all can cause mental and physical malfunctions.

Christa---I know for a fact that anger and stress can not only make you sick but it can also make you age--that is, look a whole lot older than you are. It is one thing to get angry and then get over it or get stressed out over something and then that passes but to live in anger and stress for over two years and I mean so bad that the thought of putting an end to your life would be better than what was going on in your life at the time, can age a person so fast that all of sudden you look in the mirror and do not know the person looking back at you. Thing is---after that happens and the anger and stress have left their marks then how do you get rid of it ?? I guess I will just have to go on having people think that my Dad is my brother !!! of course he wanted to know if that person thought he was older or younger than me !!! I am 61--he is 86 Sooo what ever you do====find a way to get over it quick or not let it bother you so much. Don't dwell on it or it will eat you alive !!!!---

Bobby
I always use to look young for my age. Even after rasing 4 kids and going through a couple of divorces, people still thought I was at least 15 years younger than I was. I have always had a good sense of humor and a quick wit. Some times that wit was a bit on the raw side but it was still there. The past few years have been a real bitch and really taken a toll on me in more ways than one. I am trying real hard to get over it---still have some bad days but I am learning to mellow out !!! I can not believe just how much all that stress did to me on the outside as well as the inside. It just does not pay to take life so serious. Too bad I found that out a few years too late !!! DUH !!

I like that last statement !!! When I was living here I was under so much stress that I was sick all the time. I caught a cold in Sept and had it for over two months. I was at the docs all the time and on one drug or another to get over it. Just when I would think is was gone it would come back. This lasted till Feb when I ran into a friend that I had not seen for a quite a few years. I had known him since we were little kids. Found out that his wife had passed away two years earlier. Anyway he could always make me laugh and we started hanging out and within a few weeks my cold was gone and did not come back. I was too busy having fun to get sick. More proof that stress can not only make you sick but keep you that way. Funny how some people come into your life just when you need a pick me up. Since I have had my own place I have not had a cold or the flu either. It is coming up on two years now. Life has been pretty boring and just last week I was wondering what my old friend has been up to the last couple of years, only to find out that he was asking how I have been. Maybe it is time to see what the old fart has been up to. I think my immune system might be running a little low !!!!!! Seriously---finding all you neat and caring people on here has lifted my spirits so much. I have gotten a lot of good advice about so many things. It is better than therapy !!!! a lot cheaper too. Sometimes I don't think you all realize just how much you can help people by just being silly or giving words of encouragement even if you do not have all the answers to all the problems..
