Lip Balm

I am 5 days into Phase 2 of Dr. Simeon's Protocol and have been trying to use mineral oil and aloe vera gel for my dry skin. It's working great except for my lips...they are getting terribly dry, and I have a horrible habbit of biting them when they get chapped. I think I may have been addicted to chapstick before I started this phase! Lol. Does anyone know if it would be alright to use an organic chapstick or something else for the lips? Any advice would be much appreciated!

I thought lipstick (chap stick) is ok. It was part of the list of makeup that is ok to use. I'm on my third day and I'm wondering what you are doing for deoderant. I have an organic deoderant, but it doesn't work very well and I'm wondering what to do. I don't want to be thin and stinky!

Dee,

Thanks for responding...I wasn't sure if lipstick & chapstick had a different chemical make-up or something, but I guess they'd be pretty much the same. Also, I just started using an organic deoderant as well and it's not working either! I had posted a question earlier (before I started Phase 2) and asked about products that are used on the body. A couple people responded saying that they did not change any of their shampoos, soaps or deoderants. I didn't worry about the shampoo, conditioner or soaps because you wash them off immediately, but I thought I should get an organic deoderant since it's on the skin ALL DAY. I'm starting to think it might not be worth it...this crap doesn't work and I stink! The people who didn't change their deoderant to organic said it hadn't affected their weight loss, so I think I might switch back. Let me know what you think!

Have you read KT's book? Mineral oil is very bad for you, it's petroleum based and the oil will effect your weight loss. I would go to an organic market and find an oil free organic moisturizer. Pure organic aloe should be fine though. If you have really bad dry skin you could try organic coconut oil in small quantities. But I feel it will reduce your weight loss. I think lip balm would be fine.

Yes, I have read Kevin's book and saw that he listed mineral oil as very poisonous, so I haven't used it at all, only the organic aloe vera gel. However, I found it interesting that there is a contradiction in Dr. Simeon's original protocol. On page 9 under the "Cosmetics" section it states: "Many women whose skin has in the course of years become adjusted to the use of fat containing cosmetics find that their skin gets dry as soon as they stop using them. In such cases we permit the use of plain mineral oil, which has no nutritional value." I wonder what the difference could be? Unless mineral oil's chemical make-up has changed over the years.

try the crystal for deoderant, you still sweat, but no odor, and in the book it says mineral oil is poison

Try using the salt crystal deodorant, it works better than others.

the crystal works great, but all organic deoderants are only for odor, so you will still sweat

Hello, I have used a deoderant for over a year that is natural and has no aluminum Chlorohydrate, fragrance, and Paraben Free! It works great and can be found at you local health food store. it is called "Crystal" and is found in roll-on form or in the form of a rock. Also, as far as skin care I use a system sold by a company called ARBONNE, they use all natural and pure ingredients. Can be found on the web for more info. No harsh chemicals, additives, etc. and have an extensive line of body products. Good luck!

Erica,

How is Phase II going? I'm on day 10 and down 19 lbs. I couldn't be happier.

I just wanted to give you my update on the crystal deodorant. I tried it this weekend and it worked better than anything else I tried, even my conventional deodorant. I'm shocked and amazed!
