Prednisone nearly killed me in a 4 day time span. It was poison to me! I am in big trouble and need help getting this toxin out of my system.

I've done a lot of reading, but there isn't anything specific that tells me what I can do to heal the organs it has damaged.

Currently, I am eating oranges for the heart palpitations and licorice to wake my adrenals back up. I still have sever back pain and "fog" on the brain.

Any advice you can offer would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you and health and happiness to you!

I would start with Cleansing and Detox. There are lots of programs you can try. Start reading the information on Detox from Natural Cures.com. A good liver cleanse would probably be a start. I used the Liver/Colon cleanse suggested on goodlifefoundation.com.

Phyllis,
Thank you for reading my post and for giving me direction. I will start the Detox program right away! Even if no one checks back in, I'll post my progress. Thanks so much and happy holidays to you!

PROGRESS UPDATE:

I'm still using the citrus cleanse and it's working great for my energy level. The back pains are SLOWLY fading away. My balance is being restored, though I am eager for the "fog" on the brain to be lifted.

I continue to research the use of licorice as a "kick start" to my adrenal glands. Although it appears that the only harm licorice is recorded for is the speedy reduction of potassium in the body when taking it, and how it may raise blood pressure due to sodium/water retention. Other than that, it appears safe. So, I eat potassium rich foods for balance.

I have concerns as to how long it will take for my immune system to be restored. I haven't been in a public place for a week and my hubby is getting restless! Does anyone know anything about how quickly the immune system heals? Days, weeks, months?

Thank you all so much!
April

Recovering from prednisone depends on the length of time and the amount daily you were taking. I was on it for ten yrs and taking approx. 20 mg daily. Weaned down to ten mg, then five, and then off cold turkey. Not a pleasant thing to do, btw, going off that fast was painful to say the least. But if you've been on it a short time, it shouldn't take long to recover from it. As cliche as it sounds, every body is different, but if you're taking detox solutions, your situation should be quicker.

April, how much prednisone were you taking to get such a reaction? Were you allergic to it or something? I know it's got lots of side effects and can be severe if taken for long periods of time, but this is the first time I've ever heard of a patient having such a reaction to it. Please let me know cause I would like to keep an eye out for my patients who have to take steroids. I've been on prednisone on and off nearly all my life (45 yrs). While it's given me a lot of effects, it's never been toxic to me. In fact, not only has it kept my transplanted kidney viable for many years, but it also has helped my asthma and neuritis. I hope the cleansing solutions work for you.
