I have known for a long time that many nutrients in food are destroyed when you heat it, so I was wondering, why even bother eating meat?

The only meat I eat is chicken and it takes a long time to cook (thus killing most nutrients???). If this is so, is there any point to eating meat? Are there any advantages to eating meat over something like nuts?

you can theoretically eat meat on the undercooked side, supposing that it is the right cut of meat, and that it is very ultra fresh.
There is even a type of chicken, a very special breed highly prized in France, that they won't even export, that you can eat raw, if that's your thing.. They are called Blue footed chicken, and i assure you they are probably very well taken care of while they are alive.
I have been vegetarian before, ages 15-19 , and though i did eat plenty omega-3 capsules and beans, nuts ,etc (I worked at a healthfood store during that time) , i wasn't up to par as far as my health was concerned...
The reason i became was a vegetarian was because i disagree with how disassociated we are from the process of obtaining the meat.. not that it is inherently bad to eat meat.. i think we are SUPPosed to eat meat... but we are disconnected with the life cycle, and no longer do we posses the reverence associated with these life cycles...
hunting and gathering is the single handed most ideal way of living , hands down... period.

Alexander, at least you are still asking these questions. Look at both sides of this extremely controversial issue. You can look around at the www.westonaprice.org website if you like for much of the pros about animal foods.

I agree with holly.
There is nothing really in meat that you can't get from plants, aside from extra cholesterol.

But I did read years ago that meat has it's benefits. Certain nutrients from meats are better absorbed into the body than the same nutrients found in plants. that's about as much as i remember. It was an article i read years ago. As in, not any time recently.
